With a name like Axel Childs, a nickname is really unnecessary. But if you could give him one modelled on how he plays his footy, it could be Little Linc.
Axel was recruited to Kyabram from Echuca in 2013. He quickly won the plaudits of teammates and supporters for his ferocious but fair style of play. He reminded many of a recent recruit from Darwin, Linc Withers, who tied for a Morrison Medal.
Just one example of Axel’s tackling could be from a game at Mooroopna. Axel grabbed a player in the centre of the ground and the air expelled from the Cat’s player could be clearly heard from the boundary.
In the last game of that year, Axel had a premiership medallion hanging around his neck and a life time of mates to share the memory with.
More important than the courage and skill Axel has brought to our Club, is his friendship and sense of belonging. He is like your favourite chair or pair of old jeans, he just gives you a sense of comfort.
In round 14 Axel played his 50th game for the Kyabram Football Netball Club. We hope there are many more arm chair rides for our supporters as we watch him deliver beds of nails to opposition teams.
