Sunday was about the highs and lows of footy.
Our 12 Girls did themselves proud in the Grand Final, but unfortunately Research proved too strong on the day and took away the Premiership Cup.
Our girls have had an amazing first season, to think not long out from the season starting we had a coach and 8 very keen young footballers, word spread numbers increased and an amazing season was had.
To John Schott and his support staff and players, well done. While the disappointment of losing a grand final is hard to take, you should all be very proud of what you have done in an amazing year. We hope to have you all back in the fold next year to go one Better.
Well done, everyone.
That takes us to our second Grand Final team the 15 Boys in the Red Division who also took on Research.
The Presidents’ hat came off for this one, replaced by the Dad hat.
In true Grand Final tradition it was not the best game of the season, but it was tough, no holds barred, take no prisoners stuff.
As the night went on debate raged as to how much time was on the clock as the winning goal sailed through to put the boys up by the narrowest of margins.
10 seconds, 15 seconds, somewhere in between? Who knows? And at the end of the day who cares? We just thanked our lucky Stars Little Frankie had the score board right!
Our boys did not play their best game of the year, but they never gave up, and kept fighting ‘til the end and when that final opportunity came they took it, and with it a Grand Final Win.
To the coach Pete Oxley and able assist Rob Hands well done. Like me you aged considerably over those dying minutes. To the boys, enjoy the win, and remember how you got it, hard work, and never giving up. They don’t get much closer.
Well done.
Also a big shout out to all those from the club who came out to support the girls and boys on Sunday. It was great to see so many of you there to support both teams. It says a lot about the club that so many of you with no active involvement on the day came to support the teams. It was greatly appreciated by both of them. Hopefully they can return the favour next year.
Monday night last was also a great night for our Club. The NFL Awards night was held from Under 13’s up the NFL award B&F for each completion.
We had 9 players invited to attend on the night, just like the Brownlow the umpire’s award votes at the end of each game and we had three Winners, a 3rd and 5 others in the top 10
13 Red Metuone Tou 1st .
13 Blue Giacomo Thomas 3 rd and Jai Murtagh 8th .
14’S Liam Vaina 4 th and Jacob Saleh 5th .
15 Girls Bridgett Hallal 1st .
15 Boys Jaylon Williamson 1st , Jake Tyson 5th and Brad Hexter 8th .
Congrats to all our Roosters on a great result.
And that about wraps it up for another year. We have Presentation Day to come on August 29th. We hope to see as many of you there over the day as possible.
And coaching applications will be closing very soon. If you’re interested then please get your applications in ASAP so the planning for next year can commence. Don’t assume your current coach is going again, as we already know of a few who are after a rest.
The seniors have one game to go at Home this weekend against Montmorency. Get along and cheer them on for the final time this year.
Thanks to everyone who helped put on the Grand Final celebrations back at the rooms last night, from cooking the food to working the bar, to tidying up afterwards. Thank you, all.
And that is that for another year. Thank you to all who have helped and contributed to a great year for our Roosters. We look forward to seeing you all back in 2016.
Sean.
