The Campbelltown Blues travelled to Blacktown International Sports Park to taker on Blacktown with a win required for the Blues to have any chance of making the finals.
The Blues jumped the Blacktown Magic in the first quarter on put on a good display of determined, hard running football. For the 3rd game in a row big ruckman Tod Makejev dominated the centre bounces but it was his work around the ground , in particular in getting to contests which most impressed Coach Neil Brunton. Once again Cameron Desmond was causing headaches up at full forward and the return of forward pocket Kyle Bradley from injury complimented the forward line.
The Blues led by 25 points at the first change. In the second quarter the Magic tightend their game and during a more even quarter our defence led by Captain Mark O’Connor stood fast under many forward attacks.
The Blues kicked away in the 3rd term again and Peni Mahani & Chanta Pal constantly crumbed the ball out of the middle off Tod’s ruck work. In the last quarter the Blues ran out of puff, maybe because of the Wednesday night catch up game against Moorebank but ran out eventual winners by 24 points.
The Blues, in their final round, take on Randwick away Saturday at noon at Pioneers Park, Malabar.
