Well, it was a tough day for our Roosters as we all headed out to Hurstbridge to watch our 3 sides in action.
It started with the under 15 girls taking on the powerhouse of Girls football, Diamond Creek Women’s, and while our Girls were very brave on the day they were unable to get over the line on the day.
Two years in and these girls have made back to back Preliminary Finals which is a great achievement for all involved in the team. For a lot they now move up to Under 18’s next year and a whole new challenge.
To Abbie and her support staff and all the Girls Well done on an excellent season.
Next up was the 13 Blue side, who took on Research, in a tough contest the boys battled hard all game, but could not overcome a well drilled and highly skilled opposition who proved too good on the day.
Well done to Frank and his crew on an excellent season. After winning the flag in Red division last year, the step up to Blue was always going to be tough, to make the finals and win one, was a brilliant effort by all concerned. Well done, boys.
Special mention to Frank, who after 3 years at the helm is stepping down from his role as coach of the boys. Thanks for all your hard work over the journey. Now you can sit back and relax, concentrate on the garden, and watch the boys from the other side of the fence.
The day finished with the 14’s taking on Mernda, and unfortunately for the boys their season ended with a loss on the day.
Max and his side did a great job this year playing some great footy and being very competitive against all sides, but on the day Mernda proved too good and we go back to the drawing board for next season.
To Max his helpers and team, congrats on a terrific season and we’ll see you all back in 2016.
That leaves us with our two Grand Finalists.
The 12 Girl’s and the 15 boys who both are taking on Research on Sunday. At this point in time, we don’t know the venues, hopefully at the same ground (Please NFL?!?!).
We’ll get the details out as soon as we know. It would be great to see as many of our Roosters at the ground decked out in the Red, White and Blue to cheer the boys and girls to victory on Sunday. So get along and make some noise.
To both teams, we wish you luck on the day. Regardless of the result we’re all very proud of what you have achieved this year as we are of all our teams.
I could pull out the old cliché that it’s just another game, but it’s not. Grand Finals are special. They don’t just happen. It takes a lot of hard work, effort and sometimes a slice of luck too get there. Enjoy the day, and when the final siren sounds, regardless of the result, if you’ve given it your best shot that’s all anyone can ask.
Good Luck.
On the seniors side of things, another tough day at home against Bundoora. Again in the reserves we had 6 of our under 16 boys step in to help out and again they did very well helping the side to a great win. Well done, boys.
Just two games left for the seniors, Away to Eltham this week and we finish the season with a home game against Monty.
Another reminder re junior coaching applications- they can be downloaded from the webpage or team app and emailed to the club at westprestonjfc@gmail.com. Or Paper copies are available from the rooms. Complete and hand to either myself, Brett Pollard or Deanne.
Again good luck to our two Grand Final teams. We’ll see you at the footy.
Sean.
