Well, that’s it folks. The home and away season is done and dusted. For some that means we turn our minds to Cricket but for some lucky teams they still have a bit of footy left with the sniff of Finals in the air.
Was great to see so many back at the club Sunday night for a bit of fun. Thanks to all the organisers, you know who you are.
Special thanks to VIC Farmhouse Direct too for their kind donation of food for the evening. It was greatly appreciated by all at the Club.
On the finals, it would be great to see as many Rooster fans at the games as possible in Red, White and Blue. The times and venues will be announced by the NFL ASAP and we’ll get the information out as soon as we know. Please note to all Parents, the NFL charge an entrance fee to Finals Venues to cover their costs etc. If you’re intending to visit different locations make sure you get a pass out as you leave the first venue as this will get you entry all day at Finals Venues.
Important date to put in your Diary.
Presentation day will be on Saturday 29th August. Times to be advised.
While the playing side of the year winds down, planning for season 2016 is already underway with one of our most important decisions being coaches.
All our current coaches need to reapply if they wish to go again, and as always we are looking for new coaches to join the ranks. If you have not coached before, don’t let that deter you. Everyone has to start somewhere, even the Alistair Clarkson’s and Joe Sinopoli’s of the world..
The club will pay for all newly appointed coaches to complete the Level 1 coaching accreditation course which is mandatory by NFL Rules. (I got through it, so can you!)
Applications can be downloaded from the website (see below) or team app and emailed to the club at westprestonjfc@gmail.com . Or paper copies are available from the rooms. Complete, hand to either myself, Brett Pollard or Deanne.
To the playing side of things, for some of our teams the season wrapped up on Sunday.
9 White finished the season with a home game against Mernda. Well done to Beaudie and Rory (not forgetting Mo) for stepping up to the coaching ranks this year and taking on the role. A great season was had by all the kids. Well Done.
9 Red ventured out to South Morang for the final game. A big thanks to Wes who stepped up at short notice this year to provide his kids with a fun filled year of footy highlights.
9 Blue made the short trip to Crispe Park to take on Reservoir. A nice change from the packed lunch trips out to Laurimar they seemed to make every other week. Well done and Thanks to Ange for again donning the coaches armband. Hopefully you have something bigger to celebrate in the first week of October.
The Under 10’s finished the year on the big ground with a home game against Laurimar. Another terrific year for this team. And another big thanks to Coach Joe Sinopoli and also to Fab Carreli who stepped into the breach when Joe took the family up to the NT for a well deserved family holiday.
Rob Libba and his under 11’s finished a tough season on the road at Whittlesea. Well done to this team. They showed what persistence can achieve over the course of a long season with some stirring games in the run home.
Polly and his U12’s finished with a trip to Wallan. Another hard year for this team, but like the 11’s they never gave up, tried hard all season and were rewarded with a Win in the final game of the season. Hold your heads up for a great fighting season.
Thanks to Polly for all his hard work with this team.
Pino and the 13 Red side, finished the year with a trip to Bundoora Park. This team struggled with injuries throughout the season and to still be in the final’s mix up to round 14 is another great effort. Well done to all.
While the 16’s finished a difficult season with a home clash against Diamond Creek, I was fortunate to watch quite a few of their games this year, while it was a tough season again the effort and commitment shown by these young men was to be admired. Well done, Boys. We hope to see you all back at the Club next year for your final season of Junior Football before heading into the Senior side of things and Playing Division One Senior Football.
To Adam and Daniel who managed work, studies, and training and playing in the seniors, the commitment and dedication to your coaching is greatly appreciated by all at the club. Thank you.
That leaves our sides who are heading into Finals:
- The 12 Girls
- 13 Red and Blue
- The 14’s and
- Both the Boys and Girls under 15’s.
Good luck Girls and Boys. Play hard, tough and fair. We’ll be cheering you on and proud regardless of the results. Finals are special. Make the most of them and take it from someone that only played a handful, you have to take your chances when they come. You never know if you’ll get another shot. That’s Football!
I’ll be continuing the weekly wrap for the finals, but I would like to again thank all our coaches for their time and commitment to the club. To all the Team Managers, Assistant Coaches, Runners, Medics and everyone else who did a job to put the kids on the park, We Thank you for your time and effort.
To any parents who want to be more involved in the club, we’ll post the date of the Annual General Meeting when it’s locked in. We’re always looking for extra help and new ideas, so if you’re committee minded and want to help out, keep an eye out for the AGM and come and put your hand up for a Role. (Anyone for President?).
Again as the season winds down and you’re looking for summer sporting endeavours, don’t forget Preston YCW Cricket Club who are affiliated with the footy club. Any questions you can contact Billy Roberton on jnrcoodinator.pycwd@gmail.com There are also flyers around the club.
The footy continues for the seniors after the home loss against Macleod on Saturday. It does not get any easier with a trip to War Memorial Park to take on the defending Champs, Greensborough.
Only two home games left for the big boys.
8th August against Bundoora and the 22nd August against Montmorency
Get along and enjoy some great footy.
That’s it for this week. A long one, I know, but much to get out. Again to all the kids and parents whose season wrapped up on Sunday, thanks for being a part of the Rooster family in 2015. We look forward to having you all back in 2016.
Cheers
Sean.
