AFTER watching their team beat QFA North ladder-leader Mayne for the second time in as many outings this campaign, Maroochydore fans could be excused for thinking this is the year of the Roos.

But green-and-gold enforcer Michael Roberts is keen to keep a lid on things a month out from finals.

When was asked if Maroochydore was now the team to beat, rather than Mayne, he said: "I wouldn't say that. We don't want to get ahead of ourselves.

"We'll just keep doing what we've been doing and let nature takes its course.

"It's still early days. We've got a lot to go until September (finals)."

The Roos have won 10 of 13 matches but it is their impressive victories over traditional heavyweight Mayne that have really impressed.

Roberts' side snapped the Tigers' 25-game winning streak in enemy territory in May before beating them again yesterday.

Utility Josh Norman led the charge.

In fine form against the Tigers, the 28-year-old has been arguably the Roos' best player this season.

"His attack on the football is ferocious," Roberts said.

"His ability to win the ball in the contest is second to none and he's also good in the air, so that makes him hard to match up."

The 189cm, 95kg former Queensland representative linked with the club before last season, following stints at Mt Eliza, Redlands and Caloundra.

His teammates were also able yesterday.

"Everyone stuck to the game plan and I think we overworked them (Mayne) in the end and got the result," Roberts said.

"I think our pressure and work rate was probably what got us there in the end. That was something we were focusing on."

His team is not focused on the minor premiership.

"It doesn't come into it at all," he said.

"We're aiming for that top two to get that double chance. Whether we finish first or second it doesn't matter."

The Roos will clash with their arch rival, the Noosa Tigers, next weekend.

"We'll absorb this win and enjoy it and come training during the week we'll shift our focus on to Noosa," Roberts said.

The win sets up a mouth-watering clash against arch rivals Noosa on SUNDAY with the winner of that clash more than more than likely to sew up second spot on the lastter and the all-important double chance for a shot at the grand final.
