Brendan Stafford, one of our most decorated players will play his 200th game on Saturday. Along with the team and competition awards Brendan has won, there are several other traits that make him so valuable to the club. His courage on the ground is obvious to see, but his efforts to get on the ground in spite of injury match his on field exploits. Always loyal and dedicated to the club he deserves all the accolades to come with this milestone and we would love to see a big crowd to acknowledge this achievement. Noting it does coincide with Ribs ‘n Risotto. Well Done Staffo!
And 150 Games Done
Congratulations to Brett “Fonz” Vey who played his 150th game for the club a couple of weeks ago. Originally joining the club in the “Clubbies” he was a member of a premiership team. Fonz is a true clubman helping out both on and off the ground and now a strong, secure fixture in the reserves. Well Played Fonz.
Another to celebrate the milestone since the last newsletter is Chris Pelosi. “Lefty” has been a real stalwart for the club, making himself available to play wherever possible and if he can’t play making sure he does his part in some manner off the field. Congratulations Lefty, well played.
Raise the Bat – but go on with the job.
The following players have reached their 50 game milestone in recently and we hope they can all go on and bring up the ton.
Nick Adam
Dom Chambers
Sean Currie
Luke Galtieri
Matt Gasowski
Ciaran Hickey
Ben Kelsey
Jason Spencer
Chris Zarafa
Well Done Lads
And some College Student debutantes!
It was great for the club to have the opportunity to bring in some current students to play with the Under 19’s in the Round 12 game against Collegians. With places available in our team and a week off in junior competitions, we were fortunate to have these boys play what we hope will be the first of many games with the Mighty Friars in years to come. There are lots of family connections which is great for our club.
Mark Baker (Year 10, Park Orchards NRPJFC) is the son of our Senior Coach, Dick. His brother, Tim, is out injured at the moment and it would be great to see them both on the park together in years to come.
Nick Condon (Year 10, Park Orchards NRPJFC) is brother of Tom who played Under 19’s in the last couple of seasons and is currently travelling overseas. Again we look forward to the brothers taking the field together.
Jarrod Sacco (Year 11, St. Marys JFC) is the cousin of current Under 19 Captain, Ben Kelsey. This also makes him the coach’s nephew! Hopefully Jarrod is encouraged to join us once his Junior days are finished.
We also welcomed Tom Battista (Year 11, Park Orchards NRPJFC) back to the club. Tom is well known at the Friars as he played in our 2nd Under 19 team last season and is the brother of Taylor and Jimmy who are currently with the club.
All of these were great on the day and the future of the club is in great hands if we have boys like these coming through with their mates!
