Well, what can I say, last week, monsoon conditions, this week, freezing cold, especially for our early starters. I know from setting up the ground for the under 9 White team, the crunch of ice under my feet was a dead giveaway.
But the day was smashing and the footy backed it up…..
It’s hard to believe but we’re at the end of the season already. Round 14 has rolled around very quickly to those teams that are finishing up this week, and we hope you’ve had a fun season, enjoyed playing with your mates and will be back next year.
Importantly if you are playing your last game this week, you must give back your jumper to your team manager after the game, as well as coaches and team managers will be required to return all outstanding kits etc.
This is important so we can start making arrangements for next year. While you’re all off enjoying your summer sporting activities, the work continues.
Speaking of summer sporting activities, the Footy club is aligned with Preston YCW Cricket Club. If any of our boys and girls are looking for a cricket club to play with over the summer then this is the place to be. For details please contact Billy Roberton on billy_roberton@hotmail.com
Onto the footy side of things from Sunday…
Firstly to some Milestones…
In particular to Tyler McNamara who played his 150th game for the club on Sunday in the Under 14’s!! A great achievement, well done T.
Also a big day in the under 13 Red team with 50 games to Brody Pulcino, Paris Pulcino, Dante Ciccia, and Metuaone Tuo (Tuo).. Great job, boys.
In the Under 12s Ismael Fahour and Ahmed Dabdoub ran through their “50 Game” banner as well. A terrific effort!
At home the 9 white team kicked the frost off the ground in a tough encounter against Thomastown.
Next up was the 12 boys who played a great game against top of the table Diamond Creek. Then the 13 Red side who had a ripping contest with Hurstbridge.
The 14’s wrapped up the main oval action with a spirited affair against Bundoora Park.
The top oval played host to the under 10’s who had a visit from Eltham and the 15 Girls finished off our season on the top oval with a gutsy effort against Wallan.
The top oval has seen its last action for the year game wise. With a quiet home program, next week all games will be on the main oval, which is holding up in great order despite all the rain we have had.
Away from home we had the 9 Blue team heading off to Laurimar, knowing how cold it was at Moore Park, I can only imagine the conditions on offer, while the Red team was at Northcote.
The 11’s made the trip to play Greensborough and the 12 girls also had a visit from Jack Frost as they headed out to Diamond Creek Women’s for another entertaining affair.
While our other 3 teams the 13 Blue side, the 15 boys and 16’s made it “home away from home” at South Morang as they followed each other on to the field, for three highly entertaining affairs.
I would like to make a special mention to the 13 Blue side. I have a soft side for these kids, one of my boys plays in the team and I coached them for a few years as well. On the weekend they played one of the best quarters of junior footy I’ve seen in years. They worked as a team, supported each other, put their heads over the ball and completely dominated a team that has had their measure all year. 6 Goals to one turned a 4 goal deficit into a stirring victory. (I know I try to avoid wins/losses.)
It was one of the best singing of the club song I’ve heard in years.. Well done, Boys.
On the senior side of things, Division one had a bye this weekend, so no games, but the boys are back at home this weekend against Macleod, so get along if you can..
This game is also “High Tea” at the club for any mums, partners, families and friends of the club. $30 for tea, a champers and some lovely food. Great value. Call Robyn on 0407112253 or see Dee for tickets at training Wed or Friday nights.
That’s it, for those of you whose season ends up this weekend. Enjoy the game have some fun and we look forward to seeing you back next season.
For those lucky enough to be heading to finals, good luck with the last game and then your finals campaign. I’ll be keeping everyone posted….
Cheers
Sean.
