The Yarras won each game in the triple header against Dandenong plus the Netballers had a big win over St Kilda City.
Yo-Get-It Auskick Report:
The Cubs practiced their kicking inside the basketball stadium away from the cold. On Saturday the Cubs put into action all their learning and team work in front of a really vocal crowd. Patrick explained at the media conference that he played very well.
The Netball All 4 Pets Report:
The Netballers trained very hard at Yoga XTC on Tuesday. Round 13 was a do-or-die match for South Yarra. Up against St Kilda City, we lost to them in Round 4 after Rhona’s shocking knee injury and with Tara hurting her ankle. At quarter time, the Yarras were down by 4 goals. It was still a tightly contested game, very physical and with good skills on display. At half time, we managed to decrease their lead by 1 goal. By three quarter time we turned the game around, and were leading by 3 goals. The Yarras came out roaring in the last quarter, holding St Kilda City goalless and adding an extra 11 goals to win by 14. All players were superb, but the best on court for the day was Jourdie. Final score 37-23. The Yarras live to see another week, playing top of the ladder Highett in a must win game to keep finals hopes alive.
The Thirds Tower Hotel Report:
The Redlegs started the day with two goals and the Yarras were yet to take possession of the football. It sent a scare through the Yarras camp and coach Saxby made some quick changes. The Yarras fought back in the first term to be within one point of the Redlegs at quarter-time. Knight forgot his boots and Milne was a late starter. But it worth waiting for, as Milne kicked three and Knight also kicked a goal whilst rucking superbly. The Yarras had high rotations through the bench. When the game was on the line, Hill stood up higher than anyone else, with many intercepts and constantly sending the ball forward for the Yarras in a best afield performance. The second quarter it was all one way footy, as the Yarras put on 4-3 to the Redlegs solitary point. Cameron and Tyssen snagged two goals each. Duffy and Bohan were rocks down back, constantly rebounding the ball out of the backline. The Yarras won the third quarter, 23 points to 15. Cross had the ball on a string as he racked up possessions at will whilst floating around the half forward line. He kicked five goals and was second best on ground. The Yarras won the final quarter by 20 points. The final result; 13-14-92 to 5-9-39. The Yarras are now 4 points clear on 3rd position.
The Reserves Bendigo Bank Report:
The Yarras started with a depleted line-up with Klomp and Bohan required to back up from the Thirds. The Redlegs must have been seeing a Dandenong jumper on skipper Presland, as he took many intercepting marks in the backline. The Yarras had a narrow 7 point lead at quarter time but then kept their opponents goalless in the second term, with the scores at halftime being 5-6-36 to 1-3-9. The result was known at three-quarter time, as the Yarras had widened the gap by 58 points. Kaliviotis was given six opportunities at goal, but didn’t score one. Dore scored three goals and now has a yearly total of 22 goals. Lange extended his yearly total by 2 goals and now has 29 goals. Sharpley kicked three goals as he put on a clinic around the half forward line. Chopper was in and under all day, racking possessions up at will. Strelec was too tall in the forward line, being a problem for the Redlegs defenders. S. Jewell clunked and goaled. W. Smith got a hand ball receive on the run and slotted it through. Clohesy dribbled the ball forward and it went through for a goal. Bohan was brilliant down back. The final scores 13-12-90 to 3-8-26.
The Seniors Brady Tiling Report:
The Seniors needed a big win to stay within the hunt for the finals. The Yarras opened the game by kicking six straight behinds before finding the middle of the big sticks. Whereas Dandenong were far more accurate. At the end of the first quarter, the Yarras were 2-7-19 to 3 goals straight. The scores were even at halftime, 5-10-40 to 6-4-40. The Yarras were held goalless in the third term, but kicked another 5 behinds. The Redlegs had a slender 3 point lead at three-quarter time. The Yarras played without their usual confidence and struggled to execute the aim of the game, to kick more goals than the opposition. Pane played very well, taking marks around the ground and using his strength. He kicked a goal and turned into the hulk during his celebrations. Venville marked and kicked a goal. Brady and Maher also kicked goals. Rossi debuted and played very well keeping his opponent quiet. The Yarras were down by three points, Russell marked the ball from thirty metres out on a slight angle and slotted his second goal for the day to put the Yarras in front. Both sides then continued to turn the footy over a few times whilst the clock ticked down. The Yarras kicked a disgusting 6-18-54 to Dandenong’s 7-8-50 in an ugly game of footy.
