After weeks of planning, Hamilton Wildcats AFC held their inaugural “Ladies Night” in support of Uterine Cancer research last Saturday.
The day’s festivities kicked off with some lively on field commentary by club President and Vice President; Tim Wilson and Matt McDowell, who commentated both the men’s and women’s games. Some fantastic humor was blasted out across Mohawk, as well as handy insight on the game for the eager on lookers learning the sport for the first time. The games were played with “peach” coloured footies and were signed by all players; later auctioned off at the evening event. The men battled hard in their game, but ran out of legs to succumb to the Toronto Eagles. Some costly kicking in front of goal for the ladies almost saw the Central Blues get in front in the last term, but the Wildcat ladies continued their 2015 season with another win.
The night event was held at Slaintes in downtown Hamilton, with approximately 40 guests attending looking for a good time. Guests started to pack the house and register for live and silent auctions. After attempting to outbid each other for an hour or so on the silent auction items, Kris “Killer” McKillop and Tim “Hobbit” Wilson opened up the evening stage. Greg`s moustache was the talk of the night blinding Killer on stage.
Then came the live auctions with Nick DiRago behind the mic getting paddles flying left, right and centre. Carleigh “Can I have one more wine” Holden was bidding on, but not winning, almost every item. Nick “Maybe I shouldn’t bid on Toonie Bets” Liang certainly learned his lesson on the art of gambling through an auction! Many hot auctions were bid and won, including massive wine packs, event tickets, wine barrel crafts, LCBO and keg gift cards etc. Not to mention the plethora of local businesses who also donated. The fellas themselves raised a hefty sum, offering up various services such as gardening, dinners, personal wine tours and tastings, water boy, Blue Jays night, cleaning etc. A really great effort by those guys (listed below) to donate their time and money to cause.
All in all, the club raised $4548 for Uterine Cancer research through the Canadian Cancer Society.
A truly astonishing effort by all those who came, supported, and enjoyed what was a fantastic day and night!!
A very VERY big thank you to Steph Nicoll for her help on organizing this event. She carried probably 70% of the work load and did a truly marvelous job (did anyone notice how everything was colour coded and itemized?). I suppose anyone who knows Steph would know how she loves to organize things to a tee and always puts 150% into everything she’s doing. So thanks Steph, we are very proud of you.
We would also like to thank the following members of the Wildcats Exec for their support and effort in getting the event going. Tim Wilson, Harley Graef, Bonnie Wallingofrd and Matt McDowell.
Another thank you to Rob Colburn for helping us document the evening event with his great photography! Check out his photos here:

Lastly, thank you to all of those who donated prizes and their time for the event! Thank you, thank you, thank you! You have partaken in a great cause, and we look forward to doing this with you again.
