Dried out yet ??
What a day. I take my hat off to each and every one of our Boys and Girls who pulled on the jumper on Sunday. We’ve not had conditions like that since Noah built his ark, and I thought we might just have to do that….. I also say a big thank you to all our parent helpers who got out of the car, and braved the conditions to do a job and get the games played. Without you it would not have happened, so well done to each of you.
The round actually kicked off for us on Friday night when the under 9 Red and White teams squared off under the bright lights… And to think we thought it was cold Friday night….. A great game played by both teams. The improvement in all our under 9’s has been very impressive.
Sunday’s action saw Ange and his under 9 crew headed out to South Morang, the 10’s with Joe back from his NT sortie made the trip to Diamond Creek, Pino and the 13 Red team were on the road at Northcote, while in the under 14’s, Max took his chargers up the road to Mernda.
At home the top oval played host to the Under 11’s who took on Research in a thriller. Congratulations go to Matty Ryan who pulled on the Roosters Jumper for the 50th time. Well done, Matty, on a great achievement. This was followed by the 12 & 15 girls, who both played Greensborough in very tough conditions. Our girls sides are having great seasons, and got another great footy lesson in how to play wet weather football…
While on the main oval, Polly and his under 12’s took on Eltham. A Big Congratulations to Laurence Nardella and James Elezovic who broke the banner in their 50th game for the Club. Well done, boys.
They were followed by the 13 Blue team who took on Diamond Creek, by this stage the ground was resembling the Yarra river. Next up was the 15 boys, who took on Epping in a hard fought no holds barred classic, By now the ground was looking like the Murray River. To end the day the 16 Boys also took on Epping in yet another tough contest. How these boys managed to show so much skill I do not know. By games end I swear I saw a massive python swimming down the Amazon River….
The conditions were crazy, and I again say well done to all our Girls and Boys who took the field on Sunday. The later games were almost impossible to play with the rain and the surface water on the grounds, but no one took a backward step, heads were over the ball, hits were taken and given, and at the end of the day the bodies were bruised but the showers were hot!!
Well done, Roosters, your reward, Back to School…..
On the senior side of things, the boys headed to Lower Plenty on Saturday and in difficult conditions could not get the job done. The Two’s had a heart stopping victory, while the 19’s could not be separated….
It was then back to the club for the 10K draw, which was a great night, made all the better by the MC on the night….. and our Rocking DJ the very versatile George Hallal, but I must be getting old as I did not know any of the so called music he was pumping out…..
The seniors have a bye this week and are back in action on the 25th of July with a home game against Mcleod, while the juniors have just 2 more home and away games to go before Finals, for those lucky enough to be involved.
Enjoy your week and we’ll see you at the footy… Cheers Sean.
