CHARLTON PARK 2020 CELEBRATES 9TH BIRTHDAY
In July of 2015, Charlton Park 2020 will celebrate 9 years of service to the Charlton community, working towards the construction of the new Multi-purpose facility at Charlton Park.
The current committee are holding a function at Charlton Park on Wednesday July 15th at 7.30 pm to update the community and user groups on the current state of the project.
Members of the public are invited to attend as well, but the committee would appreciate you contacting the Secretary, Kim Thompson prior to the evening to assist in catering arrangements.
A brief history of the 9 years work of the 2020 committee;
- Establishment of Charlton Park 2020 committee July 2006
- Feasibility study – 2009- community consultation
- January 2011 – whole existing facilities inundated by floods
- 2011 – funding by State Government of Design phase of the project, competed April 2012
- November 2011 – application for RDA funding – accepted but not prioritised
- June 2012 – major forum conducted with local stakeholders, politicians, local government, state representatives of peak bodies
- February 2012 –State Govt - matching 1:1 $100,000 grant to see the proposed Charlton Park 2020 Multi-Purpose Facility proceed to full tender and construction designs and specifications so that we are shovel ready.
- May 2013 – fundraising launch with David Parkin
- Community Bank commits $500,000 to the project
- Local fundraising now up to $920,000
- September 2014 – plans completed and launched
- 2015 – Project is now “Shovel Ready’ and just awaits State and Federal Government funds.
The executive has recently met with Hon Jaala Pulford ( Minister for Regional Development ) and she has indicated that she wishes for the project to proceed and is assisting in the process of obtaining State Government funding. An application has been made in the first instance, to Harness Racing Victoria to increase their contribution and then other grants are expected to follow.
