NORTH Melbourne’s Leigh Adams won’t be in Sydney for tomorrow night’s preliminary final against Sydney, but he will be at Healesville on Saturday afternoon.
The Woori Yallock junior, who has missed the Kangaroos’ elimination and semi finals after suffering concussion in the final round of the home-and-away season, was in line to replace veteran Brent Harvey if he was unsuccessful at the AFL tribunal on Tuesday night, however Harvey had his rough conduct charge overturned and is free to play.
Then on the advice of a specialist, Adams was ruled out for another week on Thursday before selection.
But he will be available to make the trek out to Healesville to watch his beloved Tigers attempt to win a third straight flag when they face Wandin in the Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League grand final.
The 26-year-old attended the first of the premierships in 2010, was overseas last year and relied on Twitter updates as the Tigers upset Upwey Tecoma and is pumped to be attending this year’s grand final.
“I usually get to a couple of games a year but I haven’t been able to get out there this year, I can’t wait for Saturday,’’ he said.
“Every Saturday night I have a look at the results, see how the guys are going. I played all my juniors with Joel Adams, I’ve known Danny Ryan (coach) for a long time, I’ve played footy and cricket against the skipper Brendan Sneddon, played school footy at Lilydale High School with Mitch Bonuda, know Jordy Williams and those boys and Tim Anderson goes out with my missus’ cousin.’’
Adams said as a proud Woori boy he was thrilled with the club’s successful era.
“I think playing for a third flag is a great effort considering where the club was at before Monkey (former coach Damian Monkhorst) and Danny got there and lifted the club up and built it on culture and mateship,’’ he said.
“They are a good bunch of blokes up there who play for the club and not for money, which footy is like everywhere these days.’’
And Adams’ tip?
“Woori by a couple of goals. They’ve got the young midfielders and blokes who are pretty quick and got the fitness to outrun Wandin and get on top.”
