A cold but perfect day for football last week as we greeted the Rosters to the Burr. Once again we came away with 2 wins and 2 losses with some hard fought football played across all games. We held our second woodcut last Sunday and it was once again pleasing to see quite a few faces there. The club would like to thanks all the committee, supporters and players that took time out of their day to help with our major fund raiser for the year. We will be holding another woodcut in a few weeks time to cut up more of the pile we have. If you haven’t been able to come and help this will be your opportunity to help the club.
Under 11’s
Once again we had to play an internal and with good numbers we were able to field 10 per team. Some of the leading and play on was great to see and it’s great to hear the comments of the crowd about how well the boys are going. A few of the boys played their best games ever Saturday and it’s very pleasing to see the ball being shared around and everyone getting into the action. Remember if you would like a photo then let Bri know as soon as you can.
Junior Colts
The junior colts were looking to see how much they have improved when they came against a unbeaten Robe team who play a good brand of football and though it might not look like they have by the scoreboard they certainly have in a few areas, their defensive game is making progress and how they're competing at the contest for longer periods of the game and gain more share of the ball. The boys played some good attacking football when in possessions through some good run and link up handball and were able to find some leading targets with good short kicks.
Senior Colts
The senior colts came up against a heavily undermanned roosters outfit. With a number of our boys pulling on a Robe jumper we were able to have a good hit out. The boys really lifted their tempo on the previous weeks performance and were willing to work a lot harder by running into space to receive the footy, they linked up well across the ground and at times the ball moved from defence to attack very quickly. Their voice on the ground is really improving as everyone is identifying each other’s roles and responsibilities. Well done to the lads who played for the opposition you battled hard and even kicked quite a few goals. Special mention to Cale Gordon who stayed in the Robe jumper for the entire game. The lads are looking forward to their mid-season break as it’s been a long hard preseason and first round but before that we must get the job done against the Doo today.
B Grade
It was a case of the same old for the B Grade as we struggled to get a team and had to rely on the senior colt’s boys. This game was no different than any of the other’s this year where we played some really good football then our fitness gets us and we let the opposition into the game and they run over the top of us. As the season progresses hopefully we can get a full team of the park a few games in a row and show the opposition what we can really do. Let’s get together and bring a couple of wins our way in the coming weeks.
A Grade
Conditions were perfect for football last Saturday apart from cool breeze which would have made spectating a little uncomfortable. This aside, we welcomed a determined Robe outfit to the Mick and Jean oval as we looked to continue our unbeaten run. The boys made a positive start to the game through their pressure and accurate goal kicking taking a handy 4 goal lead into ¼ time. We managed to maintain the pressure and transition the ball into our forward 50 multiple times throughout the second term.
In the second half Robe came out and played a good brand of football which saw them kick multiple goals throughout the second half which made us earn the victory. It was great to see the boys continue to implement the things we have been working on at training into game situations. It was also great to see players stick to their roles and work hard for each other. Better players for the day included Josh Wallis, Nick Morrison and Tommy Fennell. Today we face a solid test in taking on an in form Kalangadoo side.
The football club would like to thank all of our fantastic sponsors for all you do and give to the club. To all the players and supporters please use our greatly valued sponsors whenever you are making purchases as your help to them helps the club. Good luck to all teams today as we strive for 4 wins against a hard opposition in the K’doo.
“Hell it’s good out here”
