On Saturday 27th of June 2015 (Round 9 of the BDAFL season), former NCCUA President Darrel Luck achieves a milestone no other umpire has reached. He umpires his 250th Premier Division at Feighan Park in the match Between Warners Bay and Killarney Vale.
Putting this into perspective, there are very few players within the BDAFL that have reached this milestone by playing 250 Premier Division games for their clubs in their playing careers.
On his way to reaching this milestone, Darrel reached another milestone last year. He joined Lee Gardener and umpiring legends Neville Turner and John Sullivan by umpiring over 300 games in the Black Diamond competition. This saw Darrel inducted into the NCCUA’s 300 club along with the above mentioned three umpires.
Included in this milestone, Darrel has now umpired 342 games in the BDAFL, 13 BDAFL Grand Finals (6 of those being Premier Division) and named NCCUA Umpire of the year three times (2001, 2007 and 2013).
This record Darrel has accumulated since 2000 over 15 seasons in the BDAFL. Taking this record into consideration along with his umpiring contributions in the Sydney AFL, Central Coast AFL and the local junior competitions is an extraordinary feat that can only be matched by a few umpires within the Umpires Association.
Darrel still continues to take up the challenge of blowing the whistle each week, even after 20 odd years of umpiring. We take this opportunity to congratulate Darrel on an extraordinary milestone and wish him all the best in his 250th game and in the future.
