I think freezing sums up the conditions first thing on Sunday Morning a nice frost covered both grounds, even the ducks that normally venture over from the lake decided to stay at home….
The action started with the Under 9 Blue team taking centre stage on the main oval Sunday morning. This was the first time the 9’s have played on the main oval, and getting to use the main rooms, which was great. We’ll be playing the 8.30 under 9’s game on the main ground for the rest of the year. If you have been up on the top oval of late you would know it is starting to feel the pinch of a lot of traffic from training and games this year, so any reduction in traffic will be of help. The main ground is holding up extremely well with the resurfaced turf and a late start to it being used for training and games. I’m sure all the mums and dads appreciated being able to watch from the warmth of indoors with freshly brewed coffee at hand…..
Our 9 white team travelled to Keon Park for an entertaining affair, while the 9 Red team kicked of proceedings up top against Laurimar… The 9 red team, they are drawn to play Reservoir this week on Friday night at Reservoir’s home ground - Crispe Park at 6.15. Walking distance from our home ground. If you get a chance, pop around and cheer them on.
Also at home on the weekend was the U 10’s who took on South Morang. Joe better get back soon from his N.T. adventure as the kids are loving the fill in Coaches…. then the 12 Girls in a dominating display. They continue to impress and improve each week.
Back on the main oval, the U 11s took on Northcote in a thriller, the 13 blue team had a torrid tussle with Mill Park and the 15 Girls took on Diamond Creek Women’s in a classic . The 16 boys finished proceedings against Wallan in yet another tough day at the office.
On the road, the 12’s ventured to Mernda, 13 Red out to Wallan (that would have been cold….. ) 14’s to Yarrambat and the 15 boys were at Lalor.
Congrats to Calin Skiba (13 Blue) and Tommy Greco (16 Blue) for 50 marvelous games in the Red, White and Blue! If I missed anyone let “My Secretary” know!
This Sunday, 28/06 - from 5.30pm will be our first “Sunday Roast” night. The coaches from the 12 and 15 girls and boys sides will be up on stage for a grilling from players. Think of some questions to fire at them. Hot beef rolls can be purchased for dinner and drinks at the Bar.
As always all teams did us proud, regardless of the scoreboard. They continue to try hard, do their best and represent themselves and the club with pride… Keep it up, Kids.
On the senior side of things we took on the defending champs in Greensborough on the weekend and for 3 ½ quarters were clearly the better team. Unfortunately, as we all know, footy is a 4 quarter game and a stunning finish from the Slime saw us go down in a heartbreaker… The show goes on the road this week for another tough encounter against Heidelberg.
Our next big function is the “$10,000 cash draw”. This is our major Fundraiser for the year. $100 per ticket = 1st Prize is $5k, 2nd $2k and 3rd $1k with $2k in random prizes over the night. Free Beer, Wine, Soft Drink, Finger Food and Live Entertainment included with ticket along with the chance to win $5k. Lock in the date 11th July…. Would be great to see a full house at this one.
Tickets are available from the bar. Just see Dooga, or Myself if he’s not around. A reminder we have games this weekend, but not in the middle week of the school holidays… Again check with your coaches with regard to training during that week.
That’s it. Enjoy your week and we’ll see you at the footy ..
Cheers, Sean.
