NOOSA on-baller Shane Davis fired a warning a shot at rival QFA North teams yesterday after his below-strength outfit beat fellow title aspirant and local rival Maroochydore at Noosaville.
The third-placed Tigers defeated the second-placed Roos for the second time in as many outings this season, a fortnight after the latter broke ladder leader Mayne's 25-game winning streak.
"It's not just a one-horse race anymore. There's three sides that on their day could win it (the flag)," Davis said after the 14.5 (89) to 9.12 (166) round nine result.
Noosa lost to Mayne by 53 points last week so Davis said his side was intent on making a statement yesterday.
"After the game against Mayne, we had to dish up something pretty special and I think we did," he said.
"What we dished up in the second half against Mayne was unacceptable so that's why we came out against Maroochydore, to prove that we're one of the top sides.
"We came out and stuck to the structures."
The Tigers were missing several players through injury. Among them was former AFL star Brent Maloney, leading player Tom McKittrick and key playmaker Nick Hill.
"We've got a bit of quality out but to the rest of the boys' credit they stood up in a tough game," Davis said.
Lachlan Mclarty produced a strong performance in defence while former Brisbane Lions player Robert Copeland and Cain Tickner were highly prevalent in the midfield.
The Tigers led at every change, starting with a five-point margin at the first break after bagging four majors. The host then held a 6.1 (37) to 3.3 (21) lead at half-time and continued its mainly pin-point accuracy in the third term when it held a 19-point advantage.
Noosa held its nerve to claim its sixth win in eight outings, drawing level with Maroochydore on points and ensuring it held bragging rights over its neighbour.
Meanwhile, Caloundra swamped Nambour & Hinterland 22.16 (148) to 9.8 (62) at Palmwoods and Mayne defeated Aspley 25.29 (169) to 6.7 (43) at Aspley.
Next week, Maroochydore hosts Aspley, Mayne will entertain Nambour & Hinterland and Moreton Bay clashes with Noosa.

In the other games, Maroochydore Reserves battled gallantly but will rue a poor second quarter after goig down to Noosa by 1 point; the Colts got over Grange by 4 goals in wet conditions on Sunday; while the 3rds did the job easily in another fiery clash with Pomona.
