Last game we took on the Kongorong boys and we had some real footy weather greet us as we made our way the hawks ground. We came away with 2 wins and 2 losses with the A Grade remaining undefeated. The junior committee had a pie drive fundraiser and would like to thank all those that supported the it and made the effort to help raise money for the juniors. There were some fantastic efforts put in by some families with an order over $500 showing the hard work and commitment some people went to. Thanks to all those who helped making this fundraiser successful!
Under 11’s
Last game saw both clubs with great numbers which meant we had a game against an opposition again. We played some good patches of football and used team work well. We all must remember to listen and learn as we are getting taught new things. A really good effort by my boys and I love the fact that they love playing footy.
Junior Colts
Tough game for the boys this week with the bigger bodies of the Kongorong lads it was a little intimidating for some of our smaller players. It was good to see the team respond to a little spray at three quarter time to win the last quarter and only go down by two goals. With the development of these existing young players it is important that they continue to listen and learn the fundamental of our great game to continue the development under the talented coaching of Maurie. Thank you to Jamie Little for taking the boys for training this week. Award winner – Liam Whitty, Ella Little & Lachie Allcock.
Senior Colts
The boys were looking to continue their good form as we tackled the hawks. With a number of 1st choice players missing due to injury we knew the game was going to be a hard fought contest and that’s exactly what we got. Although the hawks have lost a lot of senior players they were really competitive as they jumped out of the blocks early to put on scoreboard pressure. The lads were getting frustrated with some things on the ground and when they learned to keep their mouths shut and focused on the football the played some really good football restricting Kongrong scoring opportunities whilst creating many of their own. We still have a lot of work to do but the boys are heading in the right direction. It’s great to see some many colts debuting in the A Grade this year which will ensure the club is strong for many years to come. Well done lads.
B Grade
Well done lads great effort, thanks again to the senior colts that filled in again, without you lads we would be struggling to get a team each week, very much appreciated. We tried all day and played well in patches. But weren't good enough. We need numbers lads and commitment at training and you all know who good we can play. We aren’t asking for people to train like an A Grader but just be committed to the B Grade and your mates. We all have a great time when we get together and a better time when we win. Let’s take the break to re-set and gather our thoughts and get all together after and play some good footy.
A Grade
Our last game saw us travel down to Kongorong as we looked to continue our unbeaten run. Conditions were tricky in the first quarter as there was a strong wind blowing straight across the ground. This contributed toward a scrappy affair with our boys not hitting targets or kicking straight when we had our opportunities in front of the goals. To Kongorong’s credit, they applied pressure and were able to spread and use the football effectively as a result of our midfield turnovers. The following three quarters saw our boys play patches of good football where we were able to run and carry and increase the margin. Better players for the day included the Wallis boys, Dylan Ridley and Nick Morrison who battled consistently in the ruck all day. Today we host Glencoe and we hope to continue our undefeated run through playing consistent team orientated football.
As we all know Mt. Burr hosted the zone carnival last weekend and the football club would like to say a huge thanks to everyone that helped in any way to make the day go as smooth as it did. It’s fantastic that we have so many wonderful volunteers who put in so much time and effort and don’t ask for any sort of payment. As a football club we are very lucky to have such committed people to make this great club what it is. Thank you all and you can be proud of all the complements that we received from the other leagues.
As mentioned before we have hardwood for sale for $130 a trailer load, please see the committee or ring Justin on 0427997706 if you or anyone you know would like to buy any. This is a major fundraiser for the club so if you can sell a load to a friend you are helping the club as well.
We mentioned last week we will be holding another woodcut very soon as we now have a large pile of wood to cut. Please make yourself available when we hold it and bring anyone along you can think of.
