Ray passed away after a two year battle with cancer aged 85.
Ray was a gifted midfielder/forward who is a Silvan 'Team Of The Century' member, named in a forward pocket.
Ray's first of three seasons at Silvan in 1948 saw the 18 year old win both the Club & League B&F awards! Ray was then club runner up B&F in both 1949/50.
He went on to play senior VFL footy at South Melbourne in 1953 and won the league B&F in the strong Ovens & Murray comp in 1955.
Ray's grandson, Andrew, was a member of our 2007 premiership team, coincidently the same age of 18 as Ray was when he started at Silvan.
Ray is survived by his wife Jocelyn, three children Geoff, Allan & Gayle. As well as six grandchildren including Andy.
As a mark of respect, all three Silvan teams will wear black arm bands when we play Templestowe at home next week.
From all at Silvan we'd like to extend our deepest sympathy to the Preston family.
Ray was a truly great man and will forever be a Silvan legend!
