It was a game the Seniors were expected to win and win given that Lilydale had not won a game and had been demolished by Balwyn last week by 20 goals. However late into 2nd quarter the scores were almost level and we looked anything but a team third on the ladder. Two late goals made things look a little more respective, but not much. One player who was clearly winning his position was Travis Bird. Who was playing his first senior game for year and dominated the ruck. His ability to leap vertically is well suited to the throwing up of the ball. The players and supporters were certainly frustrated by the interpretation of rules that were being applied, but that was not the reason for such a pretty ordinary two quarters of footy. Thankfully after the break things changed a bit particularly with two great goals from mid fielder Adam Parker. We also managed to open up the game, ran harder and hit targets. Andrew Pretto, Kyle Emley and Shane Davidson were prominent. Our defence lead by Grant McCarthy, Sam Anson and Joel Perry restricted Lilydale to just 3pts and we extended the lead to 8 goals. The last quarter turned into procession and full forward Mitch Davis extended his tally for the day to five & 19 for the year. The other best forward was Jaydon Stiles who got three, but also did good work up the field.
We had no stand out player all day, but as a team we got the job done.
Better Players Kyle Emley, Adam Parker, Travis Bird, Grant McCarthy, Jaydon Stiles, Mitch Davis , Sam Anson and Andrew Pretto.
