The Yarras travelled to Edinburgh Reserve, on a windy day where poor designers put the only scoreboard above the only grandstand in a position you can't read it from the coaches' benches and the showers only run for 15 seconds. The Cobras call it home, I call it a waste of money. The Cobras were coming off a win in every grade.
Yo-Get-It Auskick Report:
The Auskickers learned how to handball on Friday night. The cubs participated in many handball drills and then played handball matches. It was like being a kid at maccas only allowed to eat an apple. The cubs really just wanted to have a kick.
The Netball All 4 Pets Report:
The Yarras faced bottom of the ladder (and winless) Doveton in their Round 8 clash. The girls were feeling particularly excited about the 80s night and were keen to win and celebrate hard. Doveton only had 6 players for the day compared to the Yarras 9. It was a blustery day, difficult for shooters, however the Yarra girls came out firing and scored 15 in the first quarter to Doveton's 1. The gap increased as the game went on, with the Yarras running out comfortable winners, 45-8. Best on court: Carly-Lee for her hard running and accurate passing.
The Thirds Tower Hotel Report:
The Thirds were looking to avenge a loss in round five to Sandown. Cameron continued his goal kicking form by kicking 2 and extending his yearly tally to 14. He is now 4th in the competition super boot award. The skipper, Moorby lead the team by example including snapping a goal on his left. Hume took many marks. The Frisbee crew, including Barr, Evans x2, Lockhart, Singh and Moroney were magnificent with sharp ball skills and more silk than Egypt. Freeman ran hard all day. Khoury was superb up forward and even managed to kick a goal. He is having his best year at the Yarras. Other goal kickers were Milne, Moroney and Lockhart. Owen passed on his advice saying "the Thirds need to believe in themselves". The Yarras were victorious by 28 points in a great team effort.
The Reserves Bendigo Bank Report:
The Reserves played 8th spot and were only up by one goal at quarter-time. Stand-in coach Tidmarsh was displeased. The Yarras then put the pressure on, kicking 5-2 in the second whilst keeping their opponents scoreless. The wind was influential as the ball often found itself on the boundary, keeping Paul Smith (the boundary umpire) busy in a very scrappy game of football. The Cobras had the wind in the third term but were kept goalless whilst the Yarras managed to snag one. The Yarras won the final quarter kicking 3-5, but allowed the Cobras 2-1 against the wind. Stiles was a good target up forward and managed to kick two goals, including the first goal of the day. Lange extended his yearly total to 21 by kicking another two goals. Ollie Smith was brilliant in a best-on-ground performance and made his brother very happy when he kicked two goals in the fourth term. Johnson got lost and found himself uncharacteristically in the forward line as he burst through the pack and kicked a great goal from 40m into the wind. Strelec rucked and then roved in the forward line before snapping a goal over his shoulder. Borg kicked a spectacular goal over his head too. R. Dore finally shook off his goal kicking woes to kick one himself. Owen stated that the Yarras were “lazy” and “pathetic” in their 53 point win.
The Seniors Brady Tiling Report:
The Yarras were in need of a win to stay within a fighting chance of playing finals at season’s end. The Yarras ended the first quarter with a four point lead before extending their lead to 19 points at the major break and then by 26 points in the third. The Skipper, Tom Hanney, kicked two, including roving a ruck contest and unloading a 65m torpedo for goal. Villella was incredible on the field kicking two goals and was then even better off it… a story for another forum. Brady laid the tiles for a Yarra victory by kicking two goals. Finlayson was pure silk as he darted around the opposition and kicked two goals. Mangos was in my best 6 for the day, he was brilliant applying pressure to the opposition and kicking a goal. Merchant provided a needed target for the Yarras and kicked a goal. Joey entertained the crowd as he once again entered the mile high club over the top of Reiner in front of the grandstand. Despite being held the entire game, tackled many times around the throat and having hands imprints on his back, Cellini was tremendous in a best on ground performance with his many disposals. Mendes was hotter than Caitlyn Jenner in his splendid performance. The Yarras kicked 2 goals in the final term but allowed their opponents to kick an inaccurate 3-7, holding on to win by 13 points.
