Lauren off to Tasmania

Lauren Ross, one of Roos up-and-coming juniors will be representing South Australian Country in the U16 womens that will be travelling to Tasmania. From the 4-11 July 2015 the best junior basketballers from their representative states will converge on in Ulverstone, Tasmania to compete for the title of national champions.

Lauren has already represented SA Country in a development capacity in the under U14's age group, two years ago. She has developed her basketball really well as a state athlete. The Roos Basketball Club is very privlaged to once again have another athlete representing a state team in Basketball

The side will be coached by Trudy Ireland from Yorke Valley, Assisted by a staff including Millicent local Peter Seebohm and Morgan Tolley from the Eastern Hills association. On the coaching staff, but will not be travelling is former Roo, Matthew Markiewicz who took up the role as apprentice coach last year in October.

Matthew Markiewicz has heaped praise onto Ross duing the training period, "Lauren has been doing really well during the sessions" he has said, "The trainings period is tough and the travel up to Adelaide every second weekend (8 weekends in total) for Mount Gambier Athletes does take its toll mentally and physically." He went onto say, "Lauren has been able to deal with that factor really well and develop her skills in the gaurd department." "If she can continue to develop and learn from the sessions, things are looking positive when she goes away with the girls in July."

The girls will be flying out on Thursday the 2nd of July ready to compete at the highest level, during the 8 game scheduled week. "The competition is tough, teams scout your every move and they know every player inside and out on your roster" Markiewicz has gone onto say. "The competition gets tougher every year because these scouting mechanisms get better, but we have got a few tricks up our sleeves and Lauren is a large part of our plan in order to get a couple of wins."

We also congratulate Isabella Stratford another Mount Gambier local to don the Red, Blue and Yellow of a different sort.

Best wishes Lauren, the Roos Basketball Club hope you have a great week!
