A wet & windy day last week saw us take on Nanga’s at home & with wins in all grades it was a great way for everyone to help celebrate Ferg and Dales milestones. A big thanks to Kate and all the people who helped her make the 2 banners, it’s a big job to make 1 banner let alone 2 and to have them turned out the way they did was a great effort by you all, well done and thanks once again.
Under 11’s
Last week we played an internal and included 4 young Nanga’s boys. The boys were split evenly and played some really good football. We have been working on leading, sheapherding and talking and this was all on display for all to see. It’s very pleasing to see the kids listen and learn then put what they practice into action. Today we play the Bay and should get a good game in. I’d like to thank Mel Somerville for donating a first aid kit for the under 11’s it’s very much appreciated.
Junior Colts
A good win by the junior colts in wet conditions where both two teams were determined to win the contested ball and possessions were hard to come by because of the tackling from both teams. The burr boys followed their instructions of being in front and first to move and making sure when the ball was in their area they didn't spectate but got involved to help each other. Award winners - Brodie Gregory, Mitchell Gurney, Saxon Altschwager & Rhys Gamble. A big thanks to Will Wimhurst who boundary umps for us every game much appreciated Will
Senior Colts
The senior colts were looking to have a decent hit out against the Saints and with the senior burr boys stepping up to play for the opposition they were made to work hard. It was good to see that Nanga’s player numbers have improved dramatically and hopefully holds them in good stead for the years to come. Thanks to our boys who not only played for the Saints but tried also really hard. It was pleasing to see all our lads get a run with Cale and Rys Gordon kicking a goal and James Watts getting plenty of touches. But with a tough couple of weeks coming up the boys need to re-focus and keep working hard. Our first test today against the demons so we need to be switched on from the start.
B Grade
We went into last week’s game a bit undermanned and used some of the colts to help with numbers. Having said that we also got a game into a few players for the first time this year so when we eventually get a full list to choose from we will be able to put a very competitive team on the ground. Having 29 scoring shots last week was pleasing now we just need to work on converting the opportunity’s into goals. Thanks to all those that put their hand up to play and well done to Westy, Ozzy, Shagger, Ash Butler & Brodie Quintel for good games. Today we play a very good Pt. Mac team and if we keep enjoying our footy the results will keep coming our way.
A Grade:
Firstly congratulations to the two milestones last week; Andrew Ferguson on 250 and Dale Bowering on 300 senior games, a remarkable effort in anyone’s book.
Last week we hosted the Nangwarry side on what was a wet and greasy day for football. Taking the conditions into account our boys managed to settle into the match registering the first 6 goals of the game. This trend continued with our backline managing to repel the Nangwarry forward entries which forced the ball forward resulting in more scoring opportunities. It was these opportunities which enabled us to secure a pleasing percentage boosting win. It was a pleasing team effort however Brodie Hennik was sensational across half back, Josh Wallis continued his form along with Taylor Redden and Jack Gregory both kicking bags.
Finally, it was pleasing to see Thomas Hales and Dylan Broad play their first senior games for the club and Lewis Von Einhem register his first for 2015. Today we face an in form Port MacDonnell side and we hope to continue our consistent start to 2015.
We are holding our major woodcut this week so please make the effort to get there and help the club raise some money. To be held at Billy Wells’s workshop starting at 9am we will meet at the club, please bring a splitter and a chainsaw if you have one. This is an important day for the club so let’s make sure we all get there to help out. Please make the effort to get to this event as it’s very important for your football club. Thank to Doc Gregory for providing and driving the truck and to Wellsey for arranging the loader to get to Penola and letting us use his facilities. This has been a big project to organize so let’s make it worthwhile and have a good day.
