The first game of the season saw us take on Robe for the first ever Good Friday game. Judging by the crowd the idea was embraced and Robe would have been happy with the crowd and the day considering the risk they took. Well done to all who played and thanks to all supporters for making the trip and embracing the idea. The day was a good one for the Burr with 3 wins from 4 games and some good footy played by all teams.
Mini Mossies (Justin)
The Mini Mossies never had a game as Robe didn’t have a team. We are at home this week so no matter what we will play be it against another club or internally. Looking forward to seeing all the kids play and congratulations to all the first year players and their parents.
Junior Colts (Maurie & Will)
The junior colts came against a big and fast Robe team in their first game and even though they were well beaten on the scoreboard they continue to compete until the end. With most players probably playing a new position it was good to see some players adapt well to the requirements of where they were playing, the team will continue to work hard on the track and show improvement on game day. Best players were Tom V, Jack F, Jack M, Noah C, L Alcock & J. Whitty.
Congratulations on Brodie Gregory on being made captain and Thomas Vanderhorst and Rhys Gamble for vice-captains.
Senior Colts (Armando)
The senior colts after a long pre-season had a good 11 goal win against their Robe opponents. With good numbers the boys were swapped around and I’d like to congratulate them for that and playing wherever they were put without any qualms. We played some really good team football and had even contributors all over the ground which was very pleasing. This is the sort of form and team play we will have to take into all games to achieve our goal for the year. Better players for the day were Tom T, Cory G, Tom H, James W, L Collyer & Zack W.
B Grade (Dale)
Great start to the season by the B’s with good numbers and quality players to come back into the team we are looking good. A really good win against Robe, we played some really good team football and used the ball well. It was great to see some new and old faces and all the guys getting behind each other. To have 29 scoring shots was very pleasing and to keep the opposition to only 9 was a great effort as well. Best players for the game were A Ferguson, B Millard, S Hughes, Z Wallis, Z Watson, and D Lambert. Let’s keep together as a team and the rewards will come our way.
A Grade (Frazer)
Good Friday at Robe saw us travel down to the sea-side to take on much improved and determined Robe outfit. Conditions were perfect for football but the traditional swirly breeze favoring the town end saw both teams having to adjust early on. The opening quarter saw both teams start the game off in a less than ideal fashion with the ball moving from end to end and our boys were not able to take full advantage of the breeze. Robe took a slight lead into the first change and our boys soon took the challenge and lifted their intensity as the game progressed. The first game allowed the Burr boys to blow out the cobwebs early on in the match however; we saw the whole team begin to play a more consistent team brand of football as the second half progressed. This team brand of football eventually saw us running out with a pleasing 8 goal win. Everyone played their roles throughout the day but guys including John Agnew, Clint Gallio, Thomas Renzi, Dylan Ridley, Brodie Hennik, Jack Gregory and Jake Dowdy in his first game for the club all contributed well across the four quarters.
Tonight we have our Calcutta so please get you syndicates together and make it a great night for the club. The social calendar is now set so make yourself familiar with it and support the club where you can. Remember to always support the business that support us as they are an integral part of our club. Thanks to all the people who attended the working last Sunday it was great to see and a lot of things were achieved. As has been mentioned we will be having a couple of major woodcuts so please make yourself available to help out. Last but not least a huge thanks to all the volunteers who work tirelessly around the club your efforts are greatly appreciated.
