On Saturday 16th May the Northern Knights hosted Tasmania in Round 7 of the TAC Cup at Preston City Oval. In bright sunny conditions the visiting team got off to the better start with a five goal opening quarter to just two from Northern through Brayden Fiorini & Jade Gresham. Tassie continued to assert themselves on the match during the second quarter and only a late goal from Khodr Waari allowed the Knights to stay within six goals at half time. The Knights came out after the long break playing much better and with Jade Gresham up forward started to look more dangerous in attack. Unfortunately inaccuracy again plagued Northern as they booted two goal and five behinds for the quarter as Tasmania added a further three goals to extend their lead out to 39 points by the final change. The visitors continued to attack in the final term and piled on a further five goals to run out eventual 60 point winners.
Brayden Fiorini & Jade Gresham were again outstanding for the Knights, while Michael Ercolano continued his recent good form. Bottom aged player Mason Blakey was solid in defence with Max Maynard & Mitch Hill were also some of the better players.
This weekend there is a TAC Cup bye as the NAB AFL U/18 Championships begin. The Knights wish all our current Vic Metro Academy members (Brayden Fiorini, Jade Gresham Tyrone Leonardis & Matt Perry) all the best for selection.
