Well the pleasant sunshine of round 4 was replaced by the Arctic conditions of round 5.
What better way to spend your Mother’s Day than travelling far and wide to watch your boys and girls play footy. Despite the conditions we hope all our Mums, Grandmothers and Great-Grans had an enjoyable day.
Special mention to our Under 9 White team who had the trek up the highway to Laurimar for the 8.30 game. It was cold and wet, but everyone turned up and played a great game to warm the hearts of those huddling under what limited shelter was available.
9 Blue also had the early kick off, but on home territory and were followed by the 9 Red team. These young boys and girls are really getting a taste of footy weather over the last few weeks, and from all accounts, Loving It !
Joe and his under 10’s has the trip to South Morang. Never a pleasant experience when the weather is at it is, but again, our Roosters turned up to play and did themselves proud.
Our Under 12 Girls team were on the road against Greensborough and continued with their impressive inaugural season. These young girls are playing some really good football and improving each week. They have a big home game this week against Diamond Creek. If you get a chance come along and cheer them on.
The 15 Girls also keep rolling along with another impressive performance against a Laurimar side that is just starting out. These girls have come a long way in just 12 Months. Keep up the good work.
As for our other sides, well the grading games ended last week and the NFL made some changes to the divisions. We had some sides move up, down and stay put. It’s not an ideal system, but it’s what we have, and for the most part I think our sides are where they should be and can be competitive.
Our under 16 boys face a tough season as they stay in the Blue division, but I’m sure Adam and Daniel will work hard with these boys to get the most of the season and will draw on their contacts within the senior group to continue to develop these young men into senior footballers.
Keep working hard, boys, and don’t lose that never say die attitude. It will take you a long way. The under 15’s stayed put in Red and put on a classic encounter with Epping on the weekend. The finger nails were well and truly being munched in the dying moments.
The 14’s also stayed in Red Division and were very impressive in a home game against Yarrambat.
The 13 Blue side remained in the top flight and had some atrocious conditions at times in the away game at Mill Park but showed just how competitive they can be.
Pino’s 13 Side moved up from Green to Red after some impressive early season form which they carried over into the higher division with a gutsy display over Northcote.
While our under 12’s and 11’s both dropped down a division after a very tough start to the season for both teams, they were terrific on the weekend, very competitive against strong opposition. Scores demonstrated they are listening to their coaches and learning from their losses. A Big well done to all players.
Auskick moved home on Saturday morning with the kids taking over the main oval for the morning and having lots of fun as usual. From now on the program will run from the main ground if the seniors are playing away, so with a home game this week, they will move back to the top oval for the day.
Speaking of the seniors, you don’t want a weak heart watching these boys play at the moment. Another close encounter on the weekend this time at Monty. After a tight tussle it looked like we had blown the win with 5 straight points in the last ¼ and the clock kicking down. Monty took the lead with a rare forward 50 entry. But a centre clearance and big pack mark by Damien Smith who calmly slotted it through saw the boys home in a tight one by 5 points ….
Home this week against the red hot Eltham. Should be another cracker. Get down and enjoy the excitement.
