Surrey Park signs Native North American Ike Hopper to teach the club the sceret of successful lacrosse
Surrey Park Lacrosse have had a long history of attracting top quality American Lacrosse players to the club to play and to see first hand our great country!
This upcoming season is no exception with two imports coming to help us defend our premiership and enjoy Melbourne life and beyond.
However, this year’s first signing comes from a background that has true meaning to any person who has played or been involved in lacrosse.
Ike Hopper is a native North American and grew up on the Onondaga reservation outside Syracuse in America’s NorthEast.
He was born with a stick in his hand and played a lot of junior lacrosse with the famous Thompson brothers who starred in the last year’s World Championships in Denver.
For those that are unaware, the North American natives invented the game of Lacrosse before a French settler gave it its present name.
It had several traditional names and purposes but was essentially played between the tribes to keep the ‘Six Nations of the Iroquois’ together.
Ike has most recently graduated from Adelphi University where Surrey Park has ties and comes with huge wraps for his goal scoring ability and general presence and ability.
Being 6’8 he will certainly be an imposing force up front for Surrey this year.
We look forward to having Ike here to show us a thing or two in 2015. Check out this video for some highlights and background.
