THE first draw of the season between two competition heavyweights headlined round four of Horsham District Football Netball League A Grade competition.
Noradjuha-Quantong and Laharum could not be separated all day and scores were 31 a piece when the final whistle sounded at Quantong Recreation Reserve.
Neither side was able to establish more than a three-goal lead at any change as the momentum kept swinging subtly back and forth.
The Bombers got the better start and were up by three goals at the main break.
They looked like running away with the match in the third quarter, but some missed opportunities let Laharum back into the game.
The Mountain Maids came storming back to lead by a goal at the final change and from there it was anybody’s game.
The strong play of Sammi Avery at goal attack had the Bombers leading again in the last quarter, but Laharum mounted another challenge and the Bombers had to hold on to preserve a draw.
Bombers coach Yolly Francis said it was a great game to be involved in.
‘‘You couldn’t split the teams all day – it was intense, physical, and a good indication of how we can match it with the best teams in the competition,’’ she said.
‘‘Laharum has been one of the top sides in the competition this year so we knew they were going to be tough, but I’m so proud of the girls and how they played.’’
Francis praised Avery and fellow young player Maddi Focroul.
She said strong play in the midcourt had kept the Bombers in the game. For Laharum, coach Caitlin Story was solid with 15 goals.
Baylee Miller was another standout at wing attack.
