Mountain Men overpower Bombers
WIMMERA MAIL-TIMES
Laharum 29.8 (182) Noradjuha-Quantong 4.2 (26)
THE Laharum juggernaut powered through Noradjuha-Quantong on Saturday, leaving the Quantong Recreation Reserve with a 156-point win.
The Mountain Men made several late changes and brought in three debutants.
Riley Cross, Campbell Mason and Ambrose Launder all appeared in Laharum’s senior ranks for the first time.
Sam Hernon, Riley Lenehan and Daniel Ervin all had less than three senior games under their belt before the match.
Laharum coach Shannon Argall said it was great to see the young players playing well and earning their spot in the side.
‘‘We had a really young side in and there’s always a tendency for those guys to let inexperience take over, but they performed really solidly and held their own and influenced the game,’’ he said.
Rhys Bennett was a clear standout for the Mountain Men.
He booted 10 goals from centre half-forward and did as he pleased for most of the day.
Jason Przibilla finished with six and another Laharum young gun, Joe Harrison, kicked five.
They were part of a remarkably accurate team goalkicking performance, which saw Laharum finish with 29.8 at a conversion rate of about 78 per cent.
Noradjuha-Quantong coach Jarred Combe said his side, which was also full of young players, had gained plenty from the experience of playing Laharum.
‘‘We knew what to expect coming up against a dominant team like Laharum,’’ he said.
Eighteen-year-old Jack Vague was one of the Bombers’ best in a backline that was under siege the entire day.
Midfielder Jason Kerr was another who stood up for Noradjuha-Quantong.
