Jacana Football Club had a great win over the weekend, defeating Roxburgh Park 9-16-70 to 8-9-57.
The Magpies were last year’s finalists and a favourite to win the Grand Final this year.
“This was definitely the result we were after,” Coach Aaron Collins said.
“We were working hard on getting three and one after Round 4, and we achieved that, but we still have a long way to go.”
Aaron believes that Beau Velona was one of the best players in the round, as well as Paul Cluney, Michael Evans and Beau Naim.
The best goal kicker at Jacana was Mathew “Magic” Siciliano with five goals; others in the high goals list included Bryce Kimulitas and Edward Edis.
“The players are starting to work really hard, and they are sticking to their structures. We look forward to trying it again next week,” Aaron said.
In other news, the club’s women’s side took a massive 126-point win over Kyneton; ,
Jacana came forward with an intense effort, leaving the final score at 19-12-126 to Kyneton’s 0.
“It was a pretty amazing win; I knew we could win, but to win 126 to zero was amazing,” leadership group member and player Sarah Ronayne said.
“Compared to only getting one goal in our first game, and getting smashed by another team the week before, it was a pretty great win.”
Sarah believes the team is definitely confident that they can pull off more wins in the upcoming rounds.
