The Bears headed up the road to Murrumbeena for a couple of highly anticipated clashes with our local rival.
The twos got off to a good start and controlled the game early and despite being a little wasteful in front of goal went in to the major break with an 18 point lead. To their credit Beena threw everything at us in the second half, hitting the lead midway through the last term. In a tough game the Bears dug in, kicked the final goal of the game and then hung on for a tense last few minutes to win by a mere 2 points. Heath Mclean was a great target up forward kicking three goals and Sean Walton, John Hunter, Will Rice and Wade Goodwin proved a handful for Beena all day.
In contrast to the earlier game, the Ones were slow to get going in the later game trailing by 5 goals at the first change. The margin didn’t change much through the middle quarters with the Bears doing their best to stay in the game. In the end the 42 point margin was probably a fair result for a pretty ordinary performance. Some hard work on the track and hopefully key inclusions next week should see the boys give a better performance against Keysborough at Koornang Park this weekend.
Bears Netball
The Bearettes notched up their maiden victory after a couple of close losses in the opening two rounds, defeating Black Rock 32-20. Addie and Bree were standouts in a good team effort and coach Barb Traeger was well pleased and is looking for bigger and better things now that we are on the board. Well done girls.
