They may not have taken home the four points but Maroochydore sent a clear message to the competition that they were back in town after going down to Noosa in a nailbiter on Saturday.
Both sides were missing some of their stars with Noosa's Brent Moloney missing through injury while Maroochydore were without Michael Roberts (Honeymoon) and new recruit Matt Hearn (Injured).
The Roos had their chances but innacuracy in front the big sticks thoughout the clash cost them bragging rights in the first of three cross-town derby's with Noosa this season.
The game started even enough with Noosa holding a slim 5 point advantage at quarter time which they extended to 15 by the main break.
Maroochydore began to gain some ascendancy after half time but could not convert their domiance into scoreboard pressure.
A 1 goal, 7 behind third quarter compared to Noosa's 2.1 proved costly and kept the the differential to 15 points at the final break.
Maroochydore's Daniel Dzufer kicked the first goal just two minutes into the final quarter to reduce the defeceit to 10 and Maroochydore looked to have the momentum. However, Noosa's Duke and Tickner kicked the next two which had the margin swell to 20 points and left an an uphill battle.
Dzufer kicked truly on the 20 minute mark before James Page kicked his third with five minutes to go to reduce the margin to 7 points and they looked to have an injury-plagued Noosa, who were down to zero on the bench, on the ropes.
Maroochydore then spent the next five minutes pumping it into the forward line however they missed several shots on goal and had coutnless other forward entries intercepted by the Noosa defence.
The siren sounded with the ball inside Maroochydore's forward 50 but they boys were still 4 points shy of Noosa.
It was a great battle and I'm sure both sides are looking to the return bout at Weyba Rd on June 13.

In the other clashes, innacuracy also cost the Reserves, going down to Nooa by 6 goals; the Colts got up over Redland by 27 points; while the thirds took home the choccies against Gympie in the night clash.
