The two players who came into the side this week certainly repaid the selector’s faith with terrific games. Grant McCarthy was outstanding in defence with excellent marking and big punches from behind. Corey Cassidy did well at either end of ground and booted two of the final quarter goals that sealed the win.
After playing on massive grounds over the practice matches, the confines of Vermont Reserve even had many of our players feeling the pressure with close to 150 ball ups, mostly from the boundary. The backline was terrific again lead by the general Joel Perry, who was selected during the week in the Mertro combined squad, and greatly assisted with the run and dash of Sam Anson and Connor McCafferty. The strength of the midfield was again lead Adam Parker, Kyle Emley, Dan Mendes assisted with some super bursts of aggression fron Bernie Dinneen.
The bad ankle injury to one of our top recruit Kirby McConnon was the massive down for the day and unfortunately it looks like many weeks for him on the sidelines. We are also waiting to see the extent of another ankle injury to young goal kicker Ryan Phiilips who after getting the Reserves back into the game with three goals in the Third quarter, was forced off the ground. Add this to the season ending injury for Tom Schneider and our “medical” luck is not going well.
