Something we always need to convey to our players, coaches and members. Subject: Cyber Safety Importance: High Hi all, “AFL Barwon places a high priority on the acceptable use of ICT devices/equipment which will benefit members however; it recognises that the presence in the sporting arena of these technologies can also facilitate anti-social, inappropriate, and even illegal behaviour and activities. AFL Barwon aims, therefore, to maximise the benefits of these technologies, while at the same time to minimise the dangers and manage the risks.”
Facebook and twitter, whilst important tools of communication, can also be a forum for users to express opinions and engage in inappropriate dialogue that whilst may not be intended for personal harm, are entered in a very public way that can become very personal and destructive.
In 2011 AFL Victoria Country (then VCFL) developed a Cybersafety Policy to address the emerging issues with regard to the introduction of Social Media and the potential misuse.
All clubs should already be aware of this Policy, it’s restrictions, implications and consequences for misuse. The AFL Barwon Commission determined at it’s most recent meeting to adopt the attached Cyber Policy and procedures.
Please ensure as a matter of importance, you reiterate this to all your members.
