Well after a pre- season under our belts the Under 15 girls travelled to Greensborough to tackle the new franchise. Being an unknown quantity Abbie drilled it into the girls that we were in their position last year so not to take them lightly.
The girls ran out and from the first bounce they were all over the opposition. The midfield was dominant and presented the forwards many opportunities. Maddy kicked 2 great goals and a goal to Ella saw us go in 20 points up.
The second quarter mimicked the first and at half time the score was 6.7 to 2.1 and I think we thought the game was over. Abbie wanted a big 3rd quarter and what we dished up was well short of what was required not great!!
At 3/4 time we set up a new midfield plan that seemed to work well with the fact we dominated out of the centre and Ciara and Simone got on the end of great work and started to put scoreboard pressure on. Everyone lifted and played the footy we know we can play. A lack of commitment allowed the opposition in for a cheap goal with only seconds to play.
Final score was 10.10.70 to 3.2.20. A 50 point win in round 1. A standout today was Annie who showed her practice match form was no fluke with another solid performance all day. Proves hard work pays off !!
A good days work ladies but we can improve and we will by listening and learning from our coach who puts everything into your performances. We are so so lucky to have her so when she speaks listen !!!!!
It can be said that we can be lucky in sport but gee it seems to be the harder I train the luckier I get !!
Thanks to Margaret and her band of helpers for making the coaching staffs job so much easier. Thankyou
