Tigers 6 – 10 - 46 defeated by Byron 11 – 13 - 79
They say a week is a long time in footy and Saturday saw the Tigers were brought back down to earth after Byron ran home to win by 5 goals on a sunny afternoon at Tigerland Pottsville.
The lead changed several times in the first 2 quarters with the Tigers in front at the half time break by 3 points.
A rugged physical battle saw a number of casualties including Thor and BT with ankles and Lee of to Hospital for some facial stiches after a spirited encounter.
Down on numbers the Tigers paid the price in the second half with the Byron midfield getting on top and allowing their forwards to find space up front.
The Magpies to their credit turned up to play and produced the best football for 4 quarters .
All Tigers contributed with the backline valiant under fire including Jed, Sam, Westy, Arnold, Animal and Flip who received the “Players Player Award”.
Ash returned to the yellow and black to kick 3 under heavy defensive attention, whilst Richie, Josh ‘The Dr’ Secombe both kicked set shots, but It was Brownie who bagged goal of the day with a shot from the boundary in front of the raucous ‘Bay 13’, support crowd.
Earlier in the day the Tigers Seconds had their first hit out for the year, a large number of new players donning the jersy for the first time. Whilst they were out played in a slick performance by the Bryon 2s, the effort was fantastic and we look forward to seeing more of the boys at training to develop the team.
Special Thanks to all the Tigers committee, support staff, volunteers and supporters who make game day happen. Special mention to Timmy Edwards, Phil Walle and Stephen Reid for taking up official game day roles and Maxi for running the bench and assisting Jonno Smooth Bevan in Coaching duties whilst Shags is away.
The Tigers head to Lismore this Saturday to take on the arch rivals the Lismore Swans in what should be a great road trip.
