It’s Finally Back….
After a long off season, Round 1 kicked off with a bang on Sunday.
I’d like to welcome all our new families to the Club from the new boys and girls in the under 9’s, our inaugural 12 Girls and those others that have transferred into the Rooster Family over the summer. Welcome to the club, we hope you have a long and enjoyable time with us.
A lot of work goes into the running of a local football club and in particular the couple of weeks prior to round 1 are chaotic to say the least. To all those that gave up their time and effort to help us get our sides on the park on Sunday, you know who you are, A Massive Thank You….
We fielded 13 sides on the day. Unfortunately, we had to forfeit in the Under 17’s. We're still hopeful of fielding a team in this competition, but we need more players. We are still able to enter a team at this time, but need to make a decision soon on how we proceed. So this is a call to you all if you know of anyone in the under 17’s age group that wants a guaranteed game of Footy on a Sunday, get them to contact the club asap so we can get these boys playing Footy.
At the bottom end we are very strong in numbers with 3 sides entered in the under 9’s competition, and they all hit the road on Sunday.
Angelo is back in charge of 9 Blue and just for a change headed out to Laurimar,
9 Red with new Coach Wes Brain ….. headed to Mernda,
While 9 White with new coaches Beaudie Maroney and Rory McNamara locked horns with South Morang Maroon.
From all reports lots of fun was had by all. While no scores are officially kept for this age group, some little birdies tell me our Littlest Roosters did us all proud. Well done, boys and girls, and also to Wes, Beaudie and Rory on your coaching debuts.
Speaking of coaches, congrats to Pete Oxley who has taken over the coaching duties for the under 15’s this season. The boys got the chocolates on the weekend out at Laurimer to start the season on the right note.
We also welcome Adam Valeri who Joins his Brother Daniel in charge of the Under 16’s.
And it’s a welcome back to John Schott who is our inaugural under 12 Girls coach.
Speaking of the 12 Girls, a big congratulations to all involved in the first game. They travelled out to Research Sunday morning and from all accounts played a Blinder. If you know of any young girls who want to play our great game then get them to get in touch with us as we're still looking for more players.
Across the other age groups we had some wins and some losses, but importantly we played in the right spirit and had some fun which is what it’s all about.
To all those involved in the planning and running for the Day on the Field on Saturday at which the club received its Good Sports, Gold Accreditation Certificate, a very Big Thank You and well done. It was a fantastic day and those that attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Well done, all.
To wrap it up, our Big Roosters let us down over the weekend, with all 3 Senior teams going down to Northcote Park.
This week we play our first “Home” Game at Preston City Oval against newly promoted North Heidelberg, So get on down to PCO on Saturday to cheer the boys on to a win. It’s a great day out and a lot cheaper than heading to Etihad or the G.
Fingers crossed we’ll get the ok to the main ground very soon. Until then, we’ll keep doing the best we can with the top oval and limited space for training and games….
That’s all folks. Have a great week and roll on Round 2.
Keep your eye on the Red, White and Blue.
Sean
Junior President.
