RD 2 – Tigers Kickstart their season with a Roar.
Tigers 18 – 15 – 123 defeated Robina 2 – 2 - 14
After a false start last week the Tigers travelled to Robina for their first taste of footy this season and feasted on the Robina Roos in a dominant display.
The Roos were coming off a win against Lismore and with up to 5 new faces donning the yellow and black for the first time the outcome was anything but certain.
However after peppering the goals in the first term for not much result, the second term saw the Tigers settle and start to find some combinations and the big sticks.
Whilst not a polished performance it was a good hitout and the second half was all Tigers with the Roos failing to bother the scorers after half time thanks to the best backline in the business led by Jed, Thor and Westy who nullified any threat the Roos produced and will be the solid platform the Tigers this campaign.
All interest was on the new players and they didn’t disappoint. BT was rock solid for his first time in the ruck, as was Leethal , and with Tigers quality midfield leaders in Jonno and Jarrad ‘Hollywood’ Rudds on fire there was plenty of ball heading into he forward line.
With Tigers Captain and goal kicker AG away, the goal scoring was left for 2 new recruits with Big ‘Wildman’ Deano dominating with some big grabs and a bag of 5 goals, aptly supported by forward pocket Josh ‘The Dr’ Secombe chipping in with some great positional crumbing to bag 4 goals.
It was a positive result with great effort and intent from all players.
Special mention for Tigers cult hero #44 Josh ‘Dozer’ Allan who pummelled the packs and led tirelessly from the goal square all game, it was obvious the crowd was there for him when late in the fourth quarter on a strong lead, he was out jumped by teammate Tommy Gun who copped a spray from the Dozers large fan base.
The Tigers now have a week off for Easter and then face the biggest challenge in the competition when they host the Byron Magpies on the 11th April.
Thanks to all the Tigers committee, support staff, volunteers and supporters who made the journey north.
