Charlton got their 2015 campaign underway yesterday with a win over the Marong FC at White Hills Oval in Bendigo. The match was a pretty even contest for most of the game, with the Navies looking good when running and linking up in an attacking manner which they were able to do at times but maybe not quite as consistently as they would have liked. Marong proved a strong opposition against a squad of about 26 Navy Blue players who took to the field across the day. The run will... provide a boost to the fitness and ball handling skills of our players as we approach Round 1 v Wedderburn on the 11th of April. Highlights of the game yesterday were the return of Tom Finlay who not only moved extremely well but collected plenty of creative possessions from defence. Kris Clifford and Rhys Thompson both had plenty of the ball, Jimmy Baird put on an impressive display of strong marking at times while Sam O'Connor and Luke Mulquiny both moved the ball well into attack through the middle of the ground. Tyson Watton and Joe Tormey both had strong defensive performances. Luke Kyriakides and Ben Walklate looked balanced and dangerous with their foot skills in patches, while two potential recruits who played impressed enough to please the coaching panel. Riely Thiesz, Rhys Thompson and Joe McGrath all kicked a couple while the play of the day was the running snap on the left from the boundary by Darren Good. The Navies have another chance to get some match day practice next week, this time at home to Natte Bealiba on Saturday 28th March. It would be good to see plenty of support for the boys (and girls too) hopefully. Next week's game should start around 12.30pm.
