Men's Season Starts With A Close Loss

Another close miss!

The Senior Men's team came out second best to Darebin United with a 1-2 loss in the Merri Creek derby in the opening round of State League 3 North West at Sumner Park today.  The Reserves had done better in the curtain-raiser with a 3-1 win.

With Constantinidis and Dicandido scoring for Darebin United in the first 15 minutes it was always going to be an uphill battle for Zebras to come out with the points.  And so it proved.

Despite a majority of possession and shots at goal, and the strong efforst of captain Giordi Caputo, lack of finishing undid the Zebras. It was not until late in the second half that the home side finally put one in the net through Steve Tirabassi.

Opportunity comes again next week when Brunswick Zebras again have a home match with Geelong Rangers visiting Sumner Park after opening their season with a 2-1 home win over LaTrobe University.

Coaching staff are optimistic with assistant coach Andrew Ciabotti saying that, while Geelong looms as a tough battle, if the team brings the same style of play and attitude from the second half against Darebin he is confident that Zebras can get their first three points of the season.
