The leadership group for our Division One team has been announced. Congratulations to Ben Newman (Captain), Keith Neumann, Ben Kratzmann and Tasman Myles on their appointments.
We looked into their football backgrounds, what inspires them and why they play for South Toowoomba Bombers, here is what they have to say:
Captain:
Name: Ben Newman
Nickname: Skip, Skipper
Jersey Number: 5
AFL Team: Brisbane Lions
Returning captain Ben 'Skipper' Newman has been playing football for 18 years, 13 of them with South Toowoomba Bombers. On game day, you'll more than likely find him playing off the half back but is quite a diverse player having played many different positions. Newman has played 154 Senior Games for South Toowoomba Bombers and believes his greatest accomplishments were winning the flag back in 2008, playing reserves for the Brisbane Lions and being captain of the Division 1 side.
When asked what inspires Newman, he said his greatest inspiration is Michael Voss and his greatest role models are his parents. Newman loves the people and atmosphere surrounding South Toowoomba Bombers and the humour of his Division One Coach, Shaun Reardon, pre-match.
We asked Newman what his goals for the 2015 season are and his main goal is to be the most respected and feared team in the Division One competition.
Congratulations Ben on being named Captain for the Division One Team.
Vice-Captain
Name: Ben Kratzmann
Nickname: Spesh
Jersey Number: 37
AFL Team: Brisbane Lions
Ben 'Spesh' Kratzmann has been named one of the three vice captains for the Division One Team. Kratzmann has been playing football for 11 years, all of which were with South Toowoomba Bombers. Like Newman, you will mostly find Kratzmann playing in the back line on game day. Kraztmann told us that his greatest achievements were winning the flag and now being vice captain for the team he loves and says the team has always been made up of an amazing group of people, on and off the field.
When asked who inspires him most, Kratzmann said he is inspired by anyone who has the determination and discipline to work hard to achieve their goals.
Long time Bomber, Kratzman has played 130 Senior games over the past seasons and this year looks forward to working together with the leadership group, coaches and players to make 2015 a successful season.
Congratulations Ben on being named a Vice Captain.
Vice Captain
Name: Tasman Myles
Nickname: Tas, Tassie, Tigger
Jersey Number: 28
AFL Team: Brisbane Lions
Young gun Tasman 'Tigger' Myles has proven age is no barrier when it comes to leadership of a Senior team and has recently been named a vice captain of our division one team. Myles has been playing football for 14 years, 7 of them with South Toowoomba Bombers. Debuting for the Division One team back in 2010 against Dalby, he usually plays in a half forward flank and midfield positions. At only 19 years of age, he has many individual accolades. When asked what his greatest achievements were, Myles told us that being part of the first Under 14 Representative Team to win the country championships, playing with the Under 15 School Boys as they won the country championship, but the greatest accomplishment was being vice captain of the undefeated Under 18 Darling Downs Crows team as they won the Division 2 premiership.
Although he already has many successful achievements, Myles plans to keep improving his leadership abilities on the field and to continually impact the game around stoppages and moving forward to kick goals and take pessure of the forward players but also have the ability to push back in defence and help cover the defenders as well throughout the 2015 season. As a team Myles stated his goal is for ultimate success of winning the premiership, not only for the team but for the club.
When asked who his role model and inspiration was, Myles told us that his dad is his role model and he lives by the quote "seize the moment" Myles told us the reason he loves playing for South Toowoomba Bombers is the opportunities we provide to grow within the club and our senior team, but the bigest one is the family first values and our club is a massive family and everyone is welcomed to our club with open arms.
Congratulations Tasman on being named a vice captain for 2015.
Vice Captain
Name: Keith Neumann
Nickname: Keitho
Jersey Number: 1
AFL Team: Essendon Bombers
Keith 'Keitho' Neumann is going into his third year of playing with South Toowoomba Bombers but has been playing football for 10 years, mostly on a half back flank, having played around 40 games of Senior Football.
Neumann's greatest achievements include winning the Darling Downs Crows Under 18 Premiership back in 2009 and being name as a co-captain of the 2010 Division One Darlin Downs Crows Side.
When asked what his personal and team goals for the season, Neumann stated his team goals are to increase our supporter base and of course return to finals football. On a personal level Neumann is planning to have a bigger outlet during the game and to stay in the match longer. His main goal is to be a role model on and off the field.
A former Coolaroo player, Neumann told us that South Toowoomba Bombers welcomed him and his family so warmly when he joined at the end of 2012 and that is why he loves playing with the Bombers.
Neumann told us that his role model is definitely his brother and fellow team mate Jeff Neumann and that his inspiration is his dad, Glen.
Congratulations Keith for being named a vice captain for the Division One Side in 2015.
