A final ball dismissal on the boundary decided the Inaugural Lingy Cup on a glorious Saturday afternoon at Tigerland Pottsville.
The day started football for the season at Tigerland with a Interclub Trial that provided the ideal hit out for the squad leading into Rd 1 of the 2015 QAFA Div 2 South Premiership Season.
But the highlight of the day was the “Lingy Cup”, a torrid battle of 20/20 cricket on a pitch that could only be described as a bowlers green top.
As the same teams continued on from the football, Ash won the toss and made the wise decision to bat first. Maxi and BT led off the hitting and with a solid 30no from Timmy, the boys battled to modest score of 124.
Matty and Benny then opened for the Jonno Allstars with Matty putting on a one legged hitting display, dispatching the bowling to the creek on several occasions, visciously taunting his opposition.
As the afternoon wore on, weary bodies hydrated themselves and the win came down to a final ball effort with BK on strike, 3 runs was required, Ash was off the long run..…glory was there for the taking.
The crowd was on the edge of their seats as Ash bowled a halftracker that presented BK with the perfect opportunity and he took it, dispatching said ball to midwicket boundary fence, or so we all thought. Until out of the shadows stepped Al, taking a quality catch to win the game!
After an outlandish celebration it was agreed by all that, cricket was the winner on the day.
Kell and the Girls presented the Lingy Cup to the winning captain Ash in a moving presentation that paid tribute to a fallen team mate Luke “Lingy” McGrath.
A Great Day for the club and all involved with special thanks to Mark, Tim, Tony, Pat and all the generous people who volunteer their time for the Tigers.
