40 YEARS OF HISTORY

KYNETON DISTRICT SOCCER HAS A PROUD HISTORY OF OVER 40 YEARS

In 1973 a group of founding members realised the need for a locally based soccer club in the shire to provide the community an opportunity to play and be involved in game.

The Kyneton Soccer club was formed by David Plant, Stan Hodson, George Johnstone and Joe Molnar to give everyone the chance to play the game.

The first teams entered in the senior men’s struggled in the early years, but won its first Division 1 championship only 6 years after formation in 1979, the most successful year at the club as it take out just about every competition it was entered in.

In 1974 the club entered it first Junior Teams (a partnership between Kyneton and Castlemaine Soccer Club) to compliment the Senior Men’s team entered the season before.

Different paths and playing preferences were taken within the club in 1981, resulting in the formation of a second club at Kyneton. The two clubs continued to operate as separate identities until 1989 when they re-formed into a single club still today known as Kyneton District Soccer Club.

Women’s soccer was the next expansion of the club and in 1995 the club entered its first women’s team into the Bendigo League.

The club continued to grow and this resulted in the club moving its senior playing teams to Football Federation Victoria (Melbourne Competitions) in 2010, whilst the junior players continue to play in the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League

Kyneton has a strong history at all levels winning championships, 5 a side, league cups, knock out cup and other competitions in all age groups all the way from Under 11’s to the Senior Men’s, with recent championships being won by the Under 14’s and Senior Men’s in 2012, Senior Men (Back to Back) and Under 13’s in 2013 and Under 12 and Under 14 (Championships) and all three junior teams (Premierships) in 2014.
