As the new season approaches it is with real pleasure and anticipation that I announce that West Preston JFC will be fielding a female Under 12 team for the first time ever. After some lengthy discussions with a few interested parties it was decided to run with the team. At present I along with Jodie Owens are running a fairly rigorous recruiting drive to get the players required. The girls in the team and their parents are also out there asking girls of that age group to come along and have a try and I am currently visiting schools in the area. I ask anyone who may know of any girls wishing to come along and try to contact me. Numbers will be provided at the bottom of this article.
Now we have decided to go full steam ahead with the team we needed skilled people to coach and mentor these young ladies and I have great pleasure in announcing that one of our most experienced Junior coaches John Schott will take the reigns. Johns ability to develop young players will no doubt help these young players pick up the skills necessary to be able to compete on match days and also have a lot of fun along the way. So to John a huge thankyou for taking the job on.
Assisting John will be two wonderful young ladies who are no strangers to the the world of women’s football. Firstly is Marsa Arob who was part of our very successful under 15 girls team last year.Marsa is currently undertaking the SEDA program focusing on football and her guidance and fitness will be of great benefit to the team. We are also pleased to welcome Emily Bof who is a Premiership player from the Pascoe Vale Club who is currently at University studying PE and also has been a Victorian Representative in underage football.
Well what a coaching panel to have all we need are the players and we will all have great fun and pride watching them all develop.
Also again this season sees the highly successful under 15 side reunited as we were able to achieve a 100% return rate of all eligible players from last season returning to the nest. This is of course a great testament to our returning coach of last season Abbie Galea. Abbie will once again have Jon and Colin in the box on match days so the old firm returns. Abbie’s leadership of this group last season saw the team earn the right to play in a Preliminary final in its first year. This can put a lot of pressure on the team as they move from hunters to the hunted but the turn up of girls to pre season has been encouraging and shows that the hunger is there again. If time trials are anything to go by the girls have certainly been doing some work over the summer with all of them fit and raring to go.
The under 15 girls will focus heavily on increasing their individual skill levels and gaining self belief in their own ability.
The main thing is that all the girls, parents, supporters, coaches and support staff enjoy their time at the club and that they know that they are always welcome in our rooms and all social functions.
Lets make this a big season for all our teams and go the MIGHTY ROOSTERS
