The WPLFC is a large sporting and social club involving 16 teams, (including 2 female youth teams), their families, supporters, friends and helpers. We pride ourselves on being a positive influence within the local community as we offer a place that is friendly, inclusive, structured and has great outcomes for kids and their families. This is a place where you will make good friends.
The committee of the WPLFC is made up of volunteers, as are most of the coaches, assistant coaches, team managers, runners and trainers. Many others assist with the essential tasks that put teams on the field. Committee roles are many and varied including: President, Underage President, Vice President, Treasurers, Secretaries, Sponsorship Manager, Football Manager, Facilities, Risk Management Coordinator, Social club, etc. All committee members routinely undertake many of the mundane jobs such as cleaning (home rooms, away rooms, showers, team room, social area, office, toilets, kitchen, umpires’ room, outside areas), kitchen assistant, selling raffle tickets, stacking shelves, etc. Most of the committee have had their children play in the underage competition of our club.
The running of the WPLFC has become more involved and onerous due to requirements by the NFL and the Department of Justice who ensure adherence to their guidelines and our constitution. An example of this is that our finances, as tabled each year at the Annual General Meeting, need to be signed off by a Certified Practising Accountant prior to being submitted to the Consumer Affairs Department.
As a club we have many costs: NFL fees, Umpire fees, Insurance fees, Council fees, Electricity bills, Senior players and coaches fees, Trainers fees, Maintenance bills, Food and drink costs, Social Function costs, Presentation day costs, Trophies costs, Equipment costs, Uniform costs, etc. The club has a bar, membership fees, we run functions, the canteen, Raffles, game day collection, sponsorship, we get members to donate time and resources to maintain and improve the facilities. We try as hard as we can to get value for money but most of it is out of our control.
When you see the volunteer members of the WPLFC going about their tasks it would be great if you could offer them some help. We often need Time-keepers, Flag wavers, Water people, Runners, Canteen Assistants, Cleaners, someone to put up and someone to take down the goal post padding, someone to clean up around the ground after Sunday games, etc. and there are many more jobs.
If you feel there are things we could do differently or better then volunteer so you can get involved and improve the club. If you are to criticise the running of the club then remember the person you are complaining to, or about, is volunteering their time and effort to give your child a game of footy and constructive, helpful suggestions are more powerful.
Our club is about having fun for all, especially for the underage players. In the senior club we are committed to remaining in Division 1 so we need to keep winning games to do this. Hopefully, with your support, we can continue to be a great club where you want to let your children play and you and your friends want to have a good time. Maybe together we can do this and win a few premierships along the way.
