Surf Coast have progressed to Round 2 of the FFA Cup after a 3-2 win against Monash University in the rescheduled match after last week's abandonment due to the sprinklers turning on during the first half of extra time.

Surf Coast were excellent in their display and came back to win 3-2 after extra time, despite playing over 45 minutes with only 10 men.

Such was Surf Coast's performance that you forgot that Monash University had a one man advantage.

Surf Coast went 1-0 down after a cross from Monash allowed them to head the ball into an empty net early in the first half, this seemed to kick Surf Coast into gear and were soon level with a fantastic finish.

Monash again scored with a near post shot that sneaked in past Barry in goals but once again Surf Coast fought back in the second half with Captain Matt Slater slotting home a penalty after the linesman spotted a hand ball that the referee missed.

After going down to 10 men Surf Coast did not sit and defend and hope for penalties, but instead used their superior fitness to take on Monash Uni and could have scored with some fine play up front.

A second penalty was awarded to Surf Coast which was saved by the keeper only for Rhys Manning to smash into the roof of the net for the winner, video below.

A great win and Surf Coast progress to the second round for the first time in the Clubs history (from memory) we play Altona City this Saturday (time and venue to be confirmed). Surf Coast faced Altona City in a Friday night friendly a few weeks back and were unlucky to lose 2-1, so Surf Coast have a chance to progress even further!
