FFA Cup Match Abandoned

The Surf Coast Men's FFA Cup match against Monash University was abandoned after 10 minutes of the first half of extra time due to the automatic sprinklers turning on at 9pm.

The match was evenly poised at 1-1 when ther referee decided that the game could not continue.

All efforts was made to continue the match but the safety of the players had to be put first, Surf Coast are awaiting the decision by FFV as to if and when the game will be rescheduled.

Head Coach Rob Casha was happy with the teams overall performance in their first official match of the season.

Surf Coast got off to a good start with captain Matt Slater calmly slotting home a penalty to take the lead in the first half.  Surf Coast were unlucky to not take a 2-0 lead into the second half when Tom powered a header against the cross bar.

Monash University equalised mid way through the second half with a well struck free kick, from their both teams were full of running and attacked to find the winner.

Ry Herman was strong in defence with some well timed challenges whilst Rhys Manning was leading by example as always.

Some of the young players such as Taylor Bailey, Matt Linney and Liam Dunn were causing Monash grief and played well and will be a threat all season to the opposition.
