As we enter our 12th week of pre-season training I have been encouraged by the level of application the players have shown at each and every training session thus far. For those players who have attended regularly there is no doubt they will be at a good fitness level for the season ahead.
Sense starting back on the track in mid January we have had a strong focus on teaching each facet of our game plan. Given this is my first season at the Club this will take time and there will be a natural progression of what we teach.
Philosophically we are encouraging a team defence and team offence mentality which demands all players be in the game at any one time.
When the players run out for the first time in 2015 it will be quite a different outfit to that of 2014 with the off-season seeing a few departures but also seeing some new recruits head to the Club. Some notable inclusions are Josh Carracher from Torquay who we see playing a midfield role, Oscar Briody from Torquay also who we see playing key back and Adam Bird from Biregurra who will give us a good target in a key forward role. Other additions who will be regular senior players include Jarrod O’Connor / Ben McKay (Mayborough), Will Carty (Cairns), Charlie Harris / Ricci Sauni who both return to the Club.
The year will also see many local players coming up from the U/18’s or still eligible for U/18’s get the opportunity to play this season once form is shown. Both Kurt Berg & Jarryd Lubcke have had great pre-seasons whilst Zac Moules & Jye Price have just hit the track and should be pushing for senior selection. There are a further 4-5 players in the existing U/18 group that I am keeping an eye on and would expect to see them make their senior debut in 2015.
We look forward to the season with a group of players that I believe are dedicated to improve and play good team football. I would certainly like to encourage all in the town that love their football to get down and support us and I look forward to meeting you all at a Thursday selection dinner or on a game day during the season.
Go Blues
