Former Maroochydore Captain and James Page will return to Fisherman’s next year after this week committing to the Roos for the 2015 season.
Page captained the Roos during the 2011 and 2012 season before relocating to Mount Isa where he played with the Mt Isa Buffaloes. His impact at that club was immediate, taking out the League Best & Fairest Award and League leading goalkicker award in a 2013 season that saw him rotate through the midfield and an occasional stint in the backline. His leadership qualities were acknowledged this year after he was awarded the club captaincy for the 2014 season.
While in Mount Isa Page also proposed to the lovely Ellie and just a few months ago the couple welcomed their first child, Madison.
Roos coach Brett Maloney said Page’s return is a huge boost for the club which.
“To have a player of James’ calibre back at the club will be a huge inclusion,” Maloney said. “I’ve watched Pagey play many times over the years and was looking forward to coaching in my first year at the Roos. However, as what often happens to players on the coast, work took him away that year so I never really had that opportunity.
“Pagey is a tremendous player…. He’s quick off the mark and plays above his height and will be a fantastic target for our midfield. However, he also has the versatility to play through the midefield and five some of the regular on-ballers a bit of a chopout.”
Page’s inclusion will compliment the retention of nearly all of the 2014 playing squad as well as the inclusions of former Brisbane Lion player Daniel Dzufer and Jayden Luca from the strong Mornington Peninsula League in Victoria., as well as the key assistant coaching appointments of Steve Moody and former AFL Coach of the Year Andrew Cadzow (also a former Maroochydore captain).
