Brad Pemberton, 14, a former Auskicker for Wyong Lakes AFC is fast becoming the next big thing in wheelchair racing. The youngest son of long time coach and club Umpire Darryl Pemberton and wife Robin, Brad was very active in Auskick before the debiliating effects of spina bifida cut short his footy career. A great help to the then Auskick coordinator he earned the nick name Super Coach Brad.
Brad has since taken to wheelchair racing and has excelled at every turn. He has even come under the eye of three time Paralympic Gold medalist Kurt Fearnley and Louise Savage, who won 2 gold and a silver medal at the 2000 Sydney paralympic Games and has been trained and mentor by both of these great atheletes.
Earlier this year Brad became the fist wheelchair athlete to compete in the Central Coast Bay to Bay fun run. On Sunday the 30th of November 2014, Brad competed in the 10km wheelchair race at the Central Coast half marathon and finished 2nd to an adult racer. Next week he and mum Robin are off to Adelaide to compete in the All Schools competition.
With all those great acheivements it in no wonder to learn that Brad is also a finalist in the 2014 Central Coast Junior Sports Star awards.
I'm sure all member and supporters of Wyong Lakes AFC wish Brad all the best in Adelaide and in the Junior Sports Star Awards.
